Re: New Coach for Notre Dame????

There are some skeletons in Kelly's closet.
I don't think he will get the job but, Notre Dam does not give a crap about skeletons. See lou Holtz. He was the John Calaperi of football. They only care when they get caught. Lou was winning. Therefor it's o.k. If you start losing then you got to go because of the skeletons.
The George O'Leary thing was more of the fact that the boosters had an uproar about the actual hiring. Then they found he had a bad resume so they used that as an excuse.
I would think they would go with someone with a name that ends with a Vowel.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

    What is Bob Stoops?

From an ISU standpoint I hope Stoops goes there. Put OU in a little bit of a "rebuild" the next 2 years...

Re: New Coach for Notre Dame????

I think their #1 is Bob Stoops right now.

#2. Jon Gruden (rumors today are really flying.)

    #3. Urban Meyer

#4. Bill Cowher (satellite radio rumors today)

    #5. Kelly

    #6. Pat Fitzgerald

My feelings are this....they want a coach that is currently active and lure them away from their current program. (Stoops, Meyer, Kelly Fitzgerald)

What about guys from the SEC that are out like Tommy Tuberville, Fulmer, etc? Not a chance in hell? Or what? I would say no, but ....you never know.

I would want Stoops IMO. Perfect time for him to get out-re-invent himself at ND....since QB is gone....things got a little warmer in Sooner Country.....now off to the Bigger-better school for him.

Good list of quality coaches. I'd agree that it is a "good" time for Stoops if he wants it or is offered it.

I think Ferentz would be a perfect fit, but I don't see that happening.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Shefter said (as has Stoops today) He isn't interested and wants to stay at Oklahoma for a long time

Charlie Strong was at ND as an assistant before, but I think they want someone with HC experience... More and more I am thinking it's going to be Cowher.

Would be a great choice for a lot of reasons, but he's made his money and has a lot of fun on Sunday's with the CBS crew.

For ND, it's likely the best case scenario. Huge public splash and - an excellent coach. The challenge would be...

    - Does Cowher want that job or to be in the NFL?
    - Can he recruit?

On the surface, it seems easy for him to recruit but has he ever had to do it? I'm asking because I don't know his resume - even if he coached in college it does not mean he did much/any recruiting.

Oh...and I'm holding out hope Cowher is in Dallas in 2010. :)
