Re: Will Muschamp
Miller & Deace talked about this this morning.
Muschamp is making 900k per year being a DC.
He's got the HC job when Brown retires which may be as soone as this year if they win a NT. What better way to go out than on top?
When Muschamp takes over he will have a great program that is ready to win NOW which is important because if he goes somewhere else and fails it could take him YEARS to get back to an elite program like TX is now.
The guy is 39 and has a dream job lined up. Last year 98 of the 103 scholly players on TX roster were from the state of TX. Recruiting is usually over before the season ever starts for TX because everyone from TX wants to play for TX so they have their pick in the best High Schoool FB state in the US.
Why would you want to risk all of that to go "prove" yourself at another school and possibly fail and never make it back to where he is now.
Those who are critisizing him are the same ones who would be calling him out in 3 yrs if he left for a lesser school and failed. Those same people would be sitting here saying "why would you ever leave TX? He had the world in the palm of his hands and he let it go, for what just to prove himself? He should have just stayed where he was and not gotten greedy and he could be a contender every year at TX."

Re: Will Muschamp
Yeah according to this story after he was named coach in waiting he went from $450K to $900K last January. I think I would stay put also!!! College Sports Blog | Sports News | News from Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News -

Re: Will Muschamp
Texas really should be the best college coaching job ever. They never have to leave the state of Texas and they have a top ten recruiting class at least. The Big12 is built to feed their program money and you can pay top dollar and get whatever staff you want.
The only program that I can see being up there with Texas is Florida. They have recruiting advantages and money, but the SEC is tougher than the Big12. The top half of SEC teams have enough money to get almost any staff they want and great fan support.
tOSU has a great program and a lot of money, but they are stuck in Ohio and do not have the recruiting advantages of the southern teams.

Except on tOSU. I think they'll move back into a rather prominent national scene again soon. Mainly because Ohio/Pennsylvania is pretty fertile recruiting grounds. But more importantly - unlike the Big XII and SEC - the Big 10 doesn't have a championship game to knock them off. For the most part - they can avoid that last big game.

Because they dont have a championship game, the Big ten almost always gets a second team in the BCS. This has been key to keeping tOSU an upper eschelon program. I just don't think they have done a great job capitalizing on their position. They should be creaming everyone in the Big 11 with the advantages they have. I wouldn't be surprised if they fire "sweater vest" in the next few years if they don't play in and or win another NC.
Off topic: The Big Ten should be required to have a championship game to keep their automatic BCS berth. That or they need to have them play 10 conference games so that they play everyone. It is rediculous that they get rewarded for not playing a championship game and accepting split conference championships.
I honestly think all of the automatic berth conferences should be required to have at least 12 teams and play a championship game, or they should lose their automatic bid. That puts all of the BCS conferences on the same playing field.
The Big East is even worse. They only have 8 teams for football in their conference. That is rediculous. They get to split the 17 million from their annual BCS game between less schools too.

Re: Will Muschamp
I think Mack Brown has it too easy to retire even if he wins the NC game. He has Muschamp doing what little recruiting they have to do in Texas and Mack just sits in his office and talks to them when they visit campus. He does not have to worry about other schools recruiting against his age and he gets $3-4 million a year and lets others do most of the work. Muschamp has the world by the tail, he gets paid 900K a year to wait, sometime in his early to mid 40's he gets one of the best 5 jobs in the country handed to him, and then for as long as he is good enough he will make $3-4 million per year! Sounds good to me!

Re: Will Muschamp
Although I've never been to Austin, I've heard its a really nice place to live too. I gotta think continuity in living in one spot is priceless for a coaches wife and kids especially.

Re: Will Muschamp
Mack and Muschamp working together creates consistency for Texas. Having a coach in waiting lets potential recruits know that even if Mack steps aside, someone they know is going to step in right away.
