I think coaches understand the mentality of their players and what it takes to make them perform better than we do. We don't see coaches talking nice to their players on TV. We only see them chew players out because it makes better TV.
YOu may not like his attitude or cockiness or how he treats his players but you can't argue with the results he has at every level of coaching college FB.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

I wanted him to be, and he should have been hired by us 3 years ago, but I guess he wasn't "sexy" enough for our athletic director.

I love everyone who thinks we should have hired him 3 years ago. It has never once been reported credibly that he had any interest whatsoever in Iowa State. We don't even know that JP had a chance to meet with him in person. Hard to hire someone who doesn't want or inquire about the job!

At the half he threw the kicker under the bus after the kid shanked a 55 yarder. "If you cant make it I'll throw it to the end zone. The kid just wants to get on the field." Really? The kid has a 55 yarder already in his career, you know he can make it. You would rather have Pike (who already had 2ints at half) throw the ball down field to a mass of players hoping one would come down. It wasnt the kickers decision to go out there, it was Kelly's. Kelly thought he could make the kick. It was the right decision, you try for points, not for luck.

I dont like his attitude or his cockiness. IMO, Charlie was confident, not cocky. He was a offensive mastermind. Should have saved some $ and went and got an outstanding D coordinator.
So you didn't like having Eustachy?

At this point, no. I'm not trading off CPR. He's exceeded any reasonable expectations so far. During either of our coaching searches, I would have been pleased with a Kelly hire.

Come on people, common sense. H*ll Yes I would want him. I don't care if he worships Satan and runs a human trafficing ring, if he can make us the number 5 team in the country than you take him. CPR has done a great job but you are kidding yourself if you think he is better than Brian Kelly

And who do you think these "sources" were. Those "sources" are people slinging **** hoping it sticks because those were hot coaching names. How many people knew about Chizik? None. How many knew about CPR? None. JP doesn't let anything out in his coaching searches. Calling complete BS on that article.

Mangino anyone? Many college coaches are there to make up the game plan and execute it. Too many of them do not actually have a grip on their players, their mentality, or what makes them perform. Fortunately ISU has a coach that does understand his players through and through.

I cannot argue his success but I do not think he is the man for ND. If he is, so be it. I'm an Irish fan and I'll support their decision.

Is this a serious question? Of course, he is a great coach who wins conference titles.
