Graduation Rates for all Bowl Teams
These are current GSR's (graduation success rate) for football for all NCAA bowl teams. Unfortunately the Big XII does not look so good academically, especially for the two marquee programs. Hard to believe that Nebraska, where the "N" stands for knowledge, is the conference's best football program for academics. Actually Baylor is probably the best for GSR, but they will never make this list since they'll never go to a bowl game:
Navy 93%
Northwestern 92
Boston College 91
Stanford 89
Air Force 87

Re: Graduation Rates for all Bowl Teams
Do athletes that leave for the NFL early count against a school? Or are those students removed from the final tally? Just curious...

Interestingly enough, in his statement released today, Mike Leach claimed that Texas Technical has the #1 graduation rate amonst the Big 12 FB teams.
Here's a comparison of all Bowl teams: http://www.tidesport.org/Grad%20Rate..._GSR_Study.pdf
Here's the NCAA APR (academic progress rate) data as of spring 2009: 2009 NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Reports by School - NCAA.org
Our numbers are not as good as Nebraska's or Texas Technical's, but they're a lot better than Texas or Oklahoma.

All this means is that Nebraska is the easiest place to get a degree if you're a football player.

Re: Graduation Rates for all Bowl Teams
Does the GSR take into account transfers? Like if a student transfers is that a negative for ISU?
-
Re: Graduation Rates for all Bowl Teams
I suppose a few coaches could pick whatever time frame they want and say they are the best-
EX: If every senior ISU player has graduated or is on track to graduate this year, then no school can have a higher rate.
Leach may be looking at the last 10 years that he's been the coach.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating. -

I think the ISU football team at 64% is still higher than the overall ISU average for all students. I think this 64% will grow higher as we have more years of CPR leading our program.
Most of the women's sports teams are like in the 90% range, unfortunately MBB is not very good.

Re: Graduation Rates for all Bowl Teams
I remembered reading an article awhile back about best ever athlete graduation rates and I found the article. It says the athlete graduation rate is 79%, but it also says the all-student graduation rate is 67%.
Which is incorrect, or is the GSR different from the graduation rate? Cyclones Register Highest-Ever Graduation Rate - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports -

As I recall, the MBB graduation rate was at 6% at one point, by the NCAA's 6-year average...that was with mostly Floyd's and some of Eustachy's recruits. Neither of those coaches gave a damn about academics and Floyd's revolving door of running players off and recruiting over players dooms any team he coaches. Probably one of the reasons he's always long gone by the six year mark when the NCAA shows up to remove scholarships. The MBB numbers have been steadily improving under Morgan & McDermott.
