Re: Big Ten Expansion - Texas?

Whats next? Florida joining the PAC 10. Heck, NFL, NBA, MLB, arrange their conferences regionally.

Sounds like a pipe dream of some Big 10 fans.

Some/most of the monetary advantages of the Big 10 will change once all of the other conferences get their own television channels, and I would really like to see him back up his claim that the worst B10 team gets more $ than Texas. That is just laughable.

Any idiot can write a blog, and these are examples of it.

Re: Big Ten Expansion - Texas?

From what I've read on the subject, Texas had the opportunity to join the Big 10 instead of the Big XII, and turned it down. I'm not sure why they'd change their minds now when things are working out for them. And I also don't buy the argument that the increased revenue would be that big of a deal for them.

I think the best argument he brought up is that the Big XII may very well collapse if some other team bolts for the Big Ten. Texas may figure that if the Big XII is going to collapse anyway, they might as well join the Big Ten.

My biggest worry is that ISU wouldn't find a home in a BCS conference if this were to happen.

Then we could join the MAC.

Seriously, it would be nice to go back to the good old days when everything wasn't about money. When you could play every team in your conference at least once in football, home and away in basketball. When you didn't have to travel 1000 miles to get to your league championship game or tourney.

It would be ideal for the Big Ten because it would add millions of viewers to the BTN and add a highly regarded academic and athletic school.

Read these blogs, I'd be interested in your opinion. JUST MAKE SURE YOU READ THEM BEFORE MAKING THE STATEMENT "THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN". This guy covers A LOT of ground, and I think you'd find the read interesting.

Now for the reason I brought this to a Big 12 board. This is diving into a world of all kinds of theoreticals, but I've heard the opinion that the Big 10 might go to 14, bringing in Texas, Notre Dame, and one other team (aimed primarily at bringing in a large number of TV sets), if that were to occur (and assuming that team wasn't ISU), what would happen to the Big 12? It seems to me that the loss of Texas would be a crippling blow to the Big 12. Would the Big 12 be forced to go to 14 or 16? What would their response be?

This seems ridiculous, but it is the offseason now, so we have nothing better to talk about.

No way, Texas would give up way to much money joining the Big 213432q42

Well, if every conference just expands to 16+ teams, then we can get rid of the non-AQ issue by just condensing to the 6 "BCS" conferences.

The interesting thing is if the Pac ten expands to 12 who do they take and if the Big 10 expands and takes 3 teams and ends up with atleast 1 Big East team then they can't be a conference and there aren't 6 BCS conferences anymore.

If I were Texas, I wouldn't want ANYTHING to change. They've had quite a ride in the past 10 years. They are consistently in the NC picture in football and have been a final-four type team many times in bball.

Re: Big Ten Expansion - Texas?

Texas would likely seek an invitation from the Pac-10 before they accepted an invite to the Big Ten. Texas has tried for a long time to associate itself academically with the likes of Stanford, Cal, and UCLA.

If the Big 12 does collapse at some point, I want ISU and the other remnants of the conference to ally with TCU, Utah, Boise, BYU, etc.

Re: Big Ten Expansion - Texas?

The problems that I see are:

    1. Right now Texas is the Big XII. By just doing things the same way they have for years, they should be able to consistently get into a good, if not BCS, bowl game for football. Actually, right now, were it not for that sack in the fourth quarter of the championship game, we might be looking at a Texas team that is national champion for football. As far as basketball is concerned, they are number 1 right now...nothing else to say there.

    2. $$$. They make about $125 million/ year. Money that they would have to share with other schools in the Big 10, but not the Big XII.

as far as the other reasons, I have to go to class now, but I'll post them later.

Yur right on big boy....texas will never leave the big 12 hellsbells they would have to take a paycut if they had to share all the revenue evenly with all the rest of the big 10!!!

Why should Iowa and Northwestern get the same money that Texas does when the Longhorns bring all the tradition and fanbase in the state of texas???

Texas has it made and knows it!!!
