Love that he throws out that line about these kids should enjoy playing "baseball"...not because it is baseball. But it really is cool to hear a coach talk about the importance of kids being kids and playing multiple sports!
College football would be a better place with more coaches like Pat Fitzgerald. After their bowl game I wondered if anyone would try to hire him away, but I think he might be a lifer at NU.

He could be. Could be he feels no pressure from the fans. Perhaps their fans realize they will never win the Big 10 (11) but are content to finish fourth or fifth every year and go to a bowl game.
But fans are fickle. Who can tell that two years from now what the fans will expect from the team?
I like Fitzgerald, so I hope he has a lot of success where ever he coaches -- as long as it is not in the Big 12.
I have no problem with a JUCO player enrolling early as they are older (ie >= 19 years old). However, I completely agree with Fitzgerald on the High School players. No point to graduate early from High School and enroll in Spring semester - ever - IMO.

I say who cares. Some people don't like high school life, and are ready to move on to college. What's the big deal? It is their choice, and as long as they aren't pressured into it, then who cares. I was 18 in September of my senior year, so its not like everyone enrolling early would still be 17. If they aren't interested in prom or spring sports, big deal.

I know what you're saying and agree to a point. However, I think that as a high school "stud" maybe you have the opportunity to be put in some bad situations that you can avoid by early enrollment. You also give yourself a leg up to compete for a spot next year.
