Florida State vacates athletic victories from 06-07

Florida State will vacate athletic victories from 2006 and 2007, including 12 credited to former football coach Bobby Bowden, as part of its penalty for an academic fraud scandal in 2006-07 involving 61 student-athletes, the school announced.

Now if they will only vacate their "wins" in 2002 (and acknowledge that we rightfully won) we'll be setting fine!

I love how this punishment does nothing in the grand scheme of things. Vacating these wins will not make it harder for FSU to win games in the future. Maybe raising the academic standards for the football team for a certain amount of time would be better suited.

It still counts as a loss for those teams that lost those games.

I agree. The players that were there during those years still got over, got those wins, and moved on to the NFL if they were good enough to do so. The teams that lost to FSU in those years still didn't get to go to bowl games if that extra win would have gotten them to eligibility.

I'm with you. I do agree with vacating the wins, but how about some serious punishment for the program? At least this particular case hurts Bowden even though he retired anyway.

There is no way of really hurting the players and teams of the past, but there needs to be a punishment for the team in the future. If the coaches are not going to make sure that their players/students are not doing things correctly in the class room, then make sure that they spend more time in the class room. Raise the academic standard for the players to play and therefore the coaches will have to spend more time watching their players do their school work.
