Re: UNC Collapses Again
I watched the UNC/Ga Tech game last night and was struck by the following:
+ UNC's players (especially their front court) are very slight of build and incredibly, for all of the McDonald's AAs on the court, most of their players seem to have very poor hands...ie: trouble catching the ball or holding onto rebounds.
+ Ga Tech's coach appears to be on the hot seat...he has been there 10 years and has over 170 wins with 4 NCAAs and 1 NIT and an appearance in the National Championship in 2004. But the possibility of a third year in a row with no NCAA this year has him on a short leash. At least some schools still have expectations.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Re: UNC Collapses Again
Wondered if they had ever lost in the ACC 1st Round. Turns out it's their first appearance.

Nice job, Heels.

Re: UNC Collapses Again
Ol' Roy also breaks his personal streak of 20 years of having a team in the NCAA's. All kinds of bad news in Chapel Hill this season, outside of recruiting anyway.
So when UNC comes back to win 25 games next year, how much credit will Harrison get for "turning things around"?

He's good enough to do it.

He's good enough to do it. I think it will appear that way, but they'd probably be back to winning that many games w/o him anyway. This is likely a 1-year blip for Carolina.

Re: UNC Collapses Again
I do derive much pleasure from watching UNC lose. I didn't like UNC before Roy got there, but once he did, it racheted up my level of dispisement (I think I just made that word up) for the entire program.

With a guy like Barnes in the lineup, he won't need to be a scorer, just a distributor, which he seems to have down. And he's only a Soph. They definitely need to find an outside shooter though, they've been pretty pathetic shooting the rock this year.

There will be a lot of pressure on HB to really perform as a freshman because their cupboard is not as full as Roy thought.

“I’m not used to coaching Jayhawk basketball or Tar Heel basketball without any confidence,’’ coach Roy Williams said. “We’ve put ourselves in this spot and we’ve got to figure out a way to get out of it.”

That pressure we all talked about as far as being the hometown savior is nothing compared to the pressure of being the UNC savior. They'll expect him to be a miracle man on day one.

Carolina Blue Who: CarolinaBlue.com - UNC collapses in second half against Georgia Tech
Despite his frustration, UNC coach Roy Williams -- who will have his personal 20-year streak of NCAA Tournament appearances broken -- shared the sentiment.
"If somebody's going to invite me to play, I'm going to play," Williams said. "Are we worthy enough to be invited? That I don't know."
http://northcarolina.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1062313 UNC HEAD COACH ROY WILLIAMS Opening Statement:
It's extremely disappointing, to say the least. But it's been that kind of year. We've played a stretch recently where, in the first half, I'm pleased with our effort, pleased with our concentration. We're up 10 but we missed five, six shots from two feet---I said at halftime to the kids that we can play so much better. And they (Georgia Tech) come out and score the first seven points of the second half.
And then it goes back and forth for a while, but the bottom line is we just couldn't make shots. In the first half, they shoot 34 (percent) and we shoot 36 (percent). In the second half, we shoot 30 (percent) and they shoot 50 (percent). Down the stretch we tried to stay in front of the guy and tried to really make sure it's only one shot. They seemed to make their shots and we missed ours on the other end.
The first half, our defense was stronger. We got some off of turnovers and scored a couple times, but we didn't score a single point off turnovers in the second half. It's very frustrating. We've got wonderful kids---it's just been the kind of year that I'd never imagined, hope I never have to go through it again. But it's what it is, and congratulate Georgia Tech. I think that (win) will help them on Sunday (get into the NCAA Tournament).
Big shoes for HB to fill next year. On Tyler Zeller's performance?.. Well, there's no question I think he would be better if he hadn't missed 16 games one year and 11 the next or something like that. Of course I think he would be better because the more you play you improve, you get involved and those things. I looked down at the stat sheet and they had him for two turnovers today. One of those turnovers is not his. The ball was thrown at his shoes. He can't catch with his feet. But he (Zeller) did some good things today.
