    UCLA head coach is rumored to be entertaining an offer from Depaul. Anybody think it could happen?

    I'm surprised it doesnt happen more often...Johhny Orr, Tubby Smith,...who is the next one. These guys get tired of the brain damage and not being appreciated at a big time program.

    I think the rational for leaving UCLA is that Depaul has said that they want to make a big splash hire. When I was back home in the Chicago area for spring break the initial rumors was that they wanted to offer the guy at Pittsburgh.

    It could make some sense, because a School like Depaul and Northwestern are as close to Chicago as you could be. Chicago has a lot of talent that has yet to be locked down, Illinois is the best school locking down that talent. However, Basketball in Chicago will always be overshadowed by the Bulls.

    Basically all college sports (outside of ND) is overshadowed by the pro teams in Chicago. Growing up there, never gave a crap about NW, ILL. DePaul was hot in the McGuire era (late 70's early 80's) but that's about it. If DP could get a good hire and get some local tallent, they might get back on the map there.

    Sun & Beaches of Califorina....Wind, Snow & Beaches of Chicago...not a hard choice!

    Chicago is certainly a "pro town" but I believe DePaul is a sleeping giant in MBB.

    They have been a power before under Ray Meyer. I have heard they are planning to build an on campus arena (smaller venue) and play hot ticket games at the United Center...similar to what Villanova does.

    They get the right coach and commit the proper resources, DePaul will be a power again in MBB.

    I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
