Why do you hate Duke

So I know I am in the minority here, but I happen to be an ISU fan first, and a Duke fan second when it comes to college BBall. I know there is a lot animosity on this board for a team that isn't even in our conference, nor ever beat us when it mattered, like Hampton, MSU or UCLA.

So let's here all you haters, why do you hate Duke?

I'm with you. I like Duke also. Coach K is a class act and a great role model. Gotta respect him and his program. I cheer for the Clones first... but I cheer for Duke second along with Illinois.

I only hate Duke because I get tired of the same dynasties always being good. As a life-long ISU fan, it's my nature to cheer for the underdog and hate the dynasty.

I respect Coach K as a person, and he's a hell of a coach.

I love Duke, the tradition, the way they do things and the sustained excellence that Coach K brought to the program.

As an ISU fan (despite this year's game in Chicago), Duke hasn't slaughtered us in the tournament the way UNC did when they had Stackhouse & Wallace. I started by hating UNC first, then embracing their biggest rival.

Edit: Actually, I've always liked Duke, who am I kidding. That UNC thing just added to it.

Christian Laettner and Bobby Hurley is why. However, I like Grant Hill and Shane Battier. So maybe it weighs itself out. Also, they seem to do things right the majority of the time and the players are very fundamentally sound. I dislike any team that is really good and has fans all around the world because of it. 99% of the time they know nothing about the team and that's what bothers me.

How long until someone notices I am a Lakers fan?

I don't hate Duke b/c I like watching white guys play basketball.
Yeah they get calls to go their way, but they're not the only ones.
Best coach in the business, should win a NC every once in a while.
I do hate Dick Vitale though, the day him and Andy Rooney are taking dirt naps, I'll be a happier man.

Coach K, who in 1984 spoke out against Dean Smith and his "power" over the refs, only to use the same tactic down the road. The man is in the ref's ear for most of the game.

I don't hate Duke but I'm not a fan of 6'10"+ guys taking charges. That goes for any school.

If Coach 'K' can gain an advantage by getting in a ref's ear I can't blame him for doing it.

I don't hate Duke just because they are Duke. If anything I am more or less neutral towards them. I can respect them and Coach K. I would have been cheering for Butler last night against any "power conference" team last night except for Iowa State.

I don't care for Dick Vitale's constant pimping of Duke and I get tired of it as much as anyone else. But, I don't blame Duke or Coach K personally for that.

id much rather have coach k win a title than the likes of huggins, martin, calapari, williams, etc... if i had to pick a reason to dis like them its dickie v

I'll admit that it is for bitter, petty, jealous reasons. Even back when I was growing up as an Iowa fan Duke was a thorn in my side. I have always been a sucker for the underdog (which was why I cheered for Duke against UNLV a long time ago), but I really can't stand them now. Basically, I want my team to have the success that Duke has had, and I hate Duke because of it.

Coach K, on the other hand, is a completely different story. I absolutely like him and respect the hell out of him. I think it's awesome that he was even considering coaching at ISU, and apparently was coming here until Duke stepped in last minute (another reason to hate Duke). A lot of people like to complain that he whines to the officials in order to get his way, but wouldn't you be upset if YOUR coach didn't do that on a regular basis in order to get every call he could milk out of the ref? It's not K's fault that Duke's reputation helps that considerably more often than not - in fact, he's earned that.
