NCAA to have 35 bowl games for next 4 years
INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA has approved 35 bowl games for the next four years, including two new ones: the Dallas Football Classic and the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in New York.
The NCAA said Friday that the bowls were licensed on a four-year cycle for the first time, though they will be reviewed each year. The move puts the licensing schedule -- from 2010-11 through 2013-14 -- in line with the length of bowl conference agreements.
The first Pinstripe Bowl will be played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on Dec. 30. It will include the No. 3 team in the Big East and the No. 6 school in the Big 12, excluding Bowl Championship Series participants.
The first Dallas Football Classic at the Cotton Bowl is planned for New Year's Day 2011, involving the seventh-ranked team from the Big 12 against the sixth-ranked team from the Big Ten. Future games will include Conference USA.
Bowl applications were denied for the Cure Bowl in Orlando, Fla., and the Christmas Bowl in Los Angeles.

You are saying we have a chance to go bowling the next four years.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

So what happens after 4 years? Will they keep adding or gauge the success of the added bowls and possibly scrap them?

Wow, the 7th ranked Big 12 team? I guess the term "New Year's Day Bowl" means even less now.

We are perilously close to the point where teams with losing records may be needed to fill all these slots...aren't we?????

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
Re: NCAA to have 35 bowl games for next 4 years
As long as they don't let teams with losing records in, I don't care.
Maybe these are to just give eligible mid majors a chance to play?

Re: NCAA to have 35 bowl games for next 4 years
Why don't they just come out and make 60 Bowls so that every team gets to go to a bowl game...

I certainly miss the days of the national championship being on 1/1 or 1/2.

I would love to go to a bowl game in NY at Yankee Stadium. A former college roomie lives in Manhatten; that would be a fun couple days!

All this means is that ISU can look forward to more bowls against Miami, TCU, and Boise States of the world (before Boise State was elite.)

Ideally yes id like to play a major conference opponent, but a bowl against anyone is better than staying at home.

Aren't there only 120 D1 football programs? 35 Bowls means that 70 teams out of 120 will play bowl games. There would have to be teams with losing records.
As much as I LOVE bowl season, I think this is stupid.

As much as I LOVE bowl season, I think this is stupid. There have been 71-72 eligible teams each of the last few years.
