Royce White?

Honestly, I don't think he's worth the risk. This fall we'll have Ejim.
In 11 we add Cook and hopefully Uthoff a PF that plays on the wing.
Bringing in White affects those two unsigned players recruitment and
risking that for a long shot head case doesn't seem like the right move.
Now if he was a SG I'd say roll the dice.

After reading above, forget him, we don't need a thug.

With just the bit of information here, I would hope that he is not brought on at ISU. I don't want a "just win baby" attitude coming from our program.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I say no way in hell do we take a chance on this kid. On the other, I do want to take a chance. The reason I think we could take a chance is because, honestly, we don't really have THAT much to lose. Our program is at a pretty low point right now, and Royce could either significantly speed up the process of rebuilding our program, or hamper it a bit. I don't think there's a huge risk, but I'll back whatever the staff decides to do (pursue or not pursue).

Fred has to put his stamp on the program. I don't think Royce White should be part of that stamp. I'll support Fred if he chooses that route but will go on record as disagreeing. As if that matters.

Ya I would rather have the, "Just lose baby" attitude as well. Which is what we have had the past 5 years.

That wasn't the attitude. It was just the situation.

And we are going to be in that situation for a long time if we don't start taking chances on kids. Sorry but I don't see many 5* recruits coming to Ames.

I'm all for taking a chance on this kid. I agree with a previous poster who said that Larry and Tim made their mark by taking chances on kids. Bring the kid in, be upfront with him about what is expected, and let him know that one slip up means he is out. I would love to have him.

We don't need another Sam Mack type incident just as we are starting to rebuild. The potential down side seems too big to me.

I agree with Clonefan32. Huge upside with minimal risk with a one strike you're out policy. Obviously Fred would have to have a good heart to heart with the kid and do some research, then make the call and I'd support whatever he decides. But I like Fred's chances with kids that need a 2nd opportunity. Fred commands their respect with his NBA history, and I trust Fred with relationships since he's dealt with all kinds during his NBA careers. Grayer could also play a big role with this kid if we decide to go after him.
