I'd prefer if the age was 21. I think that the league is watered down with guys who come in and have to take 3 or 4 years to develep into productive NBA players. It would make the college game and the NBA more competitive and more enjoyable to watch.

I disagree. For christsakes, if you can fight in the war at the Age of 18, you damn well should be able to make a living as a professional athlete.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Also, the "you can join the military at 18, so you should be able to play pro sports at 18" argument is flawed. The military is an environment that is designed to take in 18-year olds. It is quite structured and disciplined (and rather pedestrian as far as amenities). The young people who enter the military are at the bottom of a command chain and exposed to an environment that is heavily regulated and designed to develop personal responsibility as well as instill loyalty and obedience to the command chain. They go through rigorous training and instruction.
For scholarship athletes, the college environment is very structured and instructional as well, and conducive to developing personal responsibility. Practices, study tables, classes, game travel, etc. It is also an environment that is designed to develop 18-22 yr olds.
The NBA environment is really not structured for 18-22 year olds out of high school. In the NBA environment, the newcomers go to some rookie classes, attend practice, attend the games, and then are left on their own to figure out how to deal with all their new-found money and all their new-found "friends" who want a piece of their salary. Someone fresh out of high school is rarely equipped to deal with such a situation.

NBA should work just like MLB does. You can go straight from HS but if you don't than you have to go to college for 3 years.
Let's be honest, college basketball hasn't been the same the last 10 years with all the one and doners

Re: Kareem has it right, NBA age should be 21
David Stern wanted more than the 1 and done rule. He wanted two but compromised.
And again, there are plenty, PLENTY of NFL guys who go broke and do tons of dumb stuff and they all go to college for a bit.
