I turn the channel everytime it's brought up - which is constantly.
Damn - I have to admit, that's not quite true. I turned the channel during the Iowa Speedway segment this morning (sorry Jon). I started to listen - but the guy who was on was just too "commercial" for me. You could tell he gave that pitch 100 times this week already and I just don't care about racing.

Re: Miller-Deace
Miller,
I have to give you props for comming on here, listening and replying. This keeps me interested in your show cause it shows you are paying attention to what others have to say.
You do a decent job of staying subjective most of the time IMO. -

Thank you, but it's a part of my job for one, and two, I enjoy the message board give and take with people that want to talk about the substance of things. Far too often however, it quickly devolves into 'He hawk, me clone, he bad' Neanderthalabonics and I have no time for that.
Unless I am the one serving it up ;)

I like the spectacle of drama it provides, as it really matters to a lot of the world. It just doesn't matter to most of America, and it doesn't really matter to me.

Re: Miller-Deace
It seems like Des Moines Sports talk is the ONLY people who even care about this topic. I have spent time in 5 states over the last month or so and this is the ONLY place I hear any chatter at all. Even in Chicago, the HQ of the Big 10, nobody is talking about it, AT ALL.

Re: Miller-Deace
To me expansion talk is about as pointless as trying to predict what next year's NFL draft will look like. It merits a mention but there is no way anyone really knows what will happen. So going over every single scenario 100 times is just plain bad radio and TV. Everytime I hear the word expansion I feel like I want to dry heave.

That does make a certain amount of sense though. It really doesn't directly impact Ill, NW, WI, IN, PUR like it would ISU, NU, MU, CU.
What's the talk like in those places? Places that might actually be on the move?

Rutgers isn't a huge football draw...but the area has eyeballs. But it does not matter when you have that level of national reach...
Same applies with Rutgers and that marketplace. Like I said, I stopped downloading any podcast that deals with Big 10 expansion so I might have missed it.
Your Mike and Mike example doesn't apply to this situation at all. I would assume that people in the NY/Rutgers market already have access to the BTN but that it may be on a sports tier or something like that. My point is...will adding Rutgers require cable companies in the NY area to move the BTN from a tier to basic cable? I don't think it will as there isn't enough demand for Rutgers athletics to require a cable company to make the BTN available to 10 million people.
Again, I understand this is a big topic but it now sounds like expansion may not happen for a year. I really hope you guys don't talk about it all summer because you and Deace are already repeating yourselves daily and you guys aren't brining anything new to the table that hasn't already been discussed 384 times already (except for Deace changing his predictions each week).

Maybe get a couple guests on to discuss it as the time gets closer. You would be surprised how patriotic this country gets and how many people will watch the US games. Remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts!

I find that to be disingenuous. The audience knows we don't care about it. And if there were a large appetite for soccer, we would have heard about it by now. I was here in 2006, doing my own show, the last time the World Cup came around...no buzz, little care from an audience perspective.

It's a question of pacing and stamina. The media, DM radio talkers included, went bat ***** crazy at the first mention of Big 10 expansion and domino effect realignment. Problem is, the Big 10 is a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way from actually doing anything. They shot their wad in week one of a two years or more story.

Agree, nobody over the age of 10 is interested in soccer or the world cup.
