I won't even dignify that with a response.
You and Deace should do some research, look into what MLS players play in what European teams/leagues. Who knows, maybe you'll find yourself start to find an interest and maybe *GASP* like it. I understand it's a different style of atmosphere and game than some of us are used to. (You mean there's only ONE commercial break and it's during halftime? When do we get more beer?) But in my opinion (and it's only my opinion) Football (soccer) is one of the most entertaining sports if you understand it and follow it. That said, I've heard nearly the exact same thing from baseball fans, and when there are 162 games in a season (or 163 if you're a Twins fan) it's hard for me to follow it as religiously as I follow the EPL and MLS.
I can't listen to M&D in the mornings anymore until the expansion talk has toned down. It's absolutely Brutal. Listening to Deace spit out the word "academia" like he has any idea whatsoever what he's talking about makes me want to vomit in my car. Jon, you do indeed seem as giddy as a little school girl throughout these discussion. I still do not understand why. To join the "percentage" parade, I'd say 86.625444% of all the scenarios you and Stevey boy have brought up in the last month are BAD for Iowa football a.k.a. your wet dream...hawkers should be b!tching about these scenarios at the top of their lungs. Anything that makes lucking their way into shares of conference titles any more difficult should be hated by our step brother to the east.
By gosh I think once this topic has died in 3 years, Deace will have changed his stance for every single scenario mathematically possible. And he will have stated every one of these stances with absolute certainty and fact. Not "here's what I think could possibly happen," but "Here's what will happen." So...I guess that means he's covered?
Brutal, brutal morning talk radio.
PS. Texas...is not joining...and will never...ever...join...the Little 11. Ha, spare me the "academia" BS. I can summarize a half hour of the M&D show in 3 words; it ain't happening. My opinion is the correct one, trust me :)
Given that we are the #1 rated show in morning drive in the city in the most important sales demographic, and our 7 to 8 hour is the highest rated hour on the station, I'd say we are on the right track. At least for now.
And somehow we have pulled that off without talking about soccer. I know, pretty incredible, isn't it?
They have far more total listeners than we do, and always will...and our show is still a niche audience..but that niche audience is a coveted audience in the advertising game, the most sought after demographic.
Look, you can cut up ratings a lot of different ways...total listeners, men, women, all listeners 12+, etc. What matters is what you can sell. So a few other stations can say 'we are the #1 show in x time slot' and technically all can be right. I am not saying we are the kings of radio. But apparently some folks think we are good to listen to...or rather, some folks choose to listen to us on a regular basis.
They are going to talk about what people want to hear. Nobody cares about Drake, UNI or worldcup. They would have like five listeners. I know I would turn it off. Heck, I'd take the half-hour banter about Lost over those topics.....
I'm not going to belittle your ratings as I'm happy that you guys are doing so well because I enjoy sports talk. I'm just hoping you cover some world cup, granted you don't have to do much for me because I'll be glued to the TV for a month so I won't need much.
I'm sorry if it seemed like I was attacking, or insulting, I didn't mean to. (I'm just a little passionate about soccer, could you tell?)
Either way, I wish you two well for the future.
So, now that Lost is over, what's next? Grey's Anatomy?
I'm out of the listening area and don't download any podcast that mentions B10 expansion unless it seems like a minor part of the hour. I presume I don't affect your ratings a bit.
