Notre Dame is THE school to blame in all of this
If Notre Dame just would have gotten off their high horse and joined the big 10, I really think none of this would ever have happened. The Big 10 would have been content with 12 teams and the other conferences would have stayed as is.

What the crap about Tejas? They could have not ****** off every other member of the Big XII, and worked out a Big XII Network.

Re: Notre Dame is THE school to blame in all of this
oh come on, why are we looking for someone to blame? should i go back to the root cause and blame money? if money was never invented, then there would be no need for any of this wrangling. Or maybe if that's too wide of a scope for you.. the invention of TV? no big ten network, no espn would have stopped this, right?

Re: Notre Dame is THE school to blame in all of this
How about the ones that gave Texas the power they have. Notre Dame did what was best for them and Texas took as much as people would let them. Can't blame Texas for getting as much as they could. The ones who gave them all the power are the ones to blame.

My point is that Notre Dame's stubborness to not joined started the Big 10 to sniff around, then the Big 10 said why stop at 12 when we can have 16 teams. I really really believe that the Big 10 would have been perfectly content with 12 teams if the 12th team was Notre Dame.

I agree, but at some point something would have changed. the big 10 might have been happy, but the big 12 has always had underlying problems with their TV deal, etc. They've been ripe for poaching for a long time.

Re: Notre Dame is THE school to blame in all of this
How about blaming ISU for not investing in athletics sooner? Its my understanding that we had no real commitment to athletics until the 90s. We were too late in trying to catch up, and now we may end up as a mid major.
Of course, its more fun to blame anyone (or everyone) else. But I think that, given the general lack of athletic success and fan support in general that ISU has had in the past, we HAVE been lucky to be in a BCS conference.
That said, I think we've taken great strides the last few years in remedying our shortcomings in commitment to athletics and fan support, and I think we still belong in a major conference. I'm just not going to be shocked if other conferences don't feel the same way.
In the end, I think we did this to ourselves.

Yeah, Notre Dame, the school that is not even in a conference, they are to blame... -
Re: Notre Dame is THE school to blame in all of this
Texas is a ND wannabe, but are too afraid to test the waters of independence. They want all of the benefits of being independent and all of the perks of belonging to a conference without any of the risk. ND has great big brass ones and Texas has tiny marble sized ones. All Delany did was send the dog with a steak in its mouth to the river to see its reflection.
