UofM is a founding member of the ACC. The roots run very deep in that conference. I imagine UofM's chancellor is the one leading the way for ACC expansion to bring in more TV dollars due to its position as a leading research institution. UofM has a very powerful position within the ACC from what I've heard over the years from other people who graduated from ACC schools.
Seven of the ACC schools are in the top 50 of colleges/universities in the Us News and World Report. From an academic standpoint, its not a great move. I don't see the benefits athletically. Yes, ACC is weaker in football and wrestling, but stronger in mens/womens basketball, baseball, and several other non-revenue sports.
It is funny that this is getting posted today. I think the B10 wants Boston (BC), NJ (Rutger), and Baltimore/Washington (Maryland). Then they need one more to make 16: ND or Pitt.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion - no matter how wrong they may be.
