OK, you are an iowast8fan and don't recall the answer to this? This is the stuff we make fun of Hawk fans for.

your comparing a fourth-year junior and a third-year junior to when they were a frosh/soph. of course gmac underachieved, but its not like he was working with those players the way they play today versus who they were back then.

That's a fair statement. But ask yourself this - had Wesley Johnson been on ISU's team this past year, would it have made any difference? And remember, you need to think about the way McD used Wesley rather than the way Boeheim used Wesley. Sure, I think it may have been good for another couple wins, but I still don't think we would have been an NCAA team. McDermott's coaching is THAT bad.

I think GMac's biggest problem isnt that he is a bad coach. Its that he is a bad leader. On the Big 12 level you have to be a good leader. That and somehow he forgot that college bball is a guard's game.

Yes. The conspiracy of Fred's involvement was laughable. Oh the lengths that those 2 losers will go to take shots at Iowa State is getting old. I was informed of this by an unfortunate buddy of mine that still for some reason punishes his ears listening to them spew that garbage on their show. I will listen to that show if and only if they have John Walters on again. I would love to hear him rip Matt apart again. Maybe "the voice" of the Cyclones and C-Willy could replace those 2 dopes in the afternoon on KXNO..... how do we make this happen?

Depends what part you're talking about. X's and O's we were in a lot of games we shouldn't have been. Recruiting, especially guards, we didn't have the horses to compete, especially when Lucca left and Scott was playing through mono. Every good team in the Big 12 has multiple players who could go off for 30 on any given night without killing their team. We didn't.

John is probably limited to say certain opinions since he is on the AD payroll. Chris seems to be slowly worked into KXNO similar to how Jon Miller was 4-5 few years ago. My bet is that it is only a matter time before we have CW on KXNO. In all honesty, I think its good for sports radio to have two fanatics of both schools since it makes for interesting radio.

Re: A thought and a question about McDermott

I believe McDermotts record of one conference championship in 20 yrs is beyond horrible exceeded only by his lack of player relations. His crowning achievement was too keep CB for one more yr, to no avail for him or ISU. Players werent leaving cause they 'loved' the program. WJ along with CB would still have not brought us success. I have a hunch Freddies people skills are a-ok, hope he can develop as a coach.

I can't agree that the X's and O's were adequate. If anything, they were part of the problem. The type of game that McD wanted to coach does not work in the B12.

In 2008 he had the #4 and #21 overall picks in the NBA draft and still managed to not even achieve a winning record. Yes, Wes was hurt and blah, blah, blah, but the last time we had two first rounders on the roster, we went to the elite eight. McDermott didn't even manage to crack the top eight in the conference. I am so thankful that CRAYTON took this disaster of a coach off our hands.

    2. Next, the question. When McDermott left for CRAYTON, there was talk about how they were required to buy out the remainder of McD's contract for somewhere around $800K. I seem to recall CRAYTON claiming that they believed they didn't have to pay this amount. Does anyone know whether ISU ever received this money?

Last I heard...ISU has not recieved anything. Will, but working through some legal stuff.

With Greg you got great pre and post game interviews and great p.r., but that was about it. Even his best UNI team folded down the stretch, and I was never impressed with the fundamentals of his players or his x's and o's, especially at the end of close games. Creighton saved us from the basketball graveyard and Fred can bring us back.

To take it a step further, Oregon's inability to land its first 17 choices for coach saved us.

I've enjoyed Oregon basketball for a while. Now I can enjoy it even more. Go Ducks!

We need to find the list of 17 and send them thank you letters.
