Re: A thought and a question about McDermott
McDermott could coach the type of player that was thrilled with the opportunity to play D-1 ball and knew his chances for the NBA were probably not going to happen. When Greg went to the next level, he could recognize talent and get them on board but he could not handle the ego's of the players who looked at D-1 as a short step on their ultimate stop in the NBA. He will probably do all right at "Crayton" but they draw 17,000 patrons and he will not get as long a rope as he did at UNI. The CU Ad is either brilliant or dumb and dumber combined.

I agree to a point, but it's still all about guards. GMac had one complete guard in his four years. I'm talking handle, shoot, pass, defend. One. And the year that one guard was playing was the one year that ISU had a decent looking team that actually overachieved. IMO GMac did an absolutely horrible job at evaluating and developing guards.

Why not let the Mac era die? Why keep going down this road?

Re: A thought and a question about McDermott
"those who do not study history, repeat it". or something to that effect. The reason it is relevant today, is because two of his recruits at ISU were chosen in the first round of the NBA draft. Good recruiter-bad coach. For relevance, how many first round NFL picks have we ever had?

Re: A thought and a question about McDermott
So he had 100 too many plays in his playbook. So he saw his team players in the wrong position on the court. So he could not get a good out of timeoput play going. So he had real talent that did not get over the hump. So he had trouble beating UNI. So he took his marbles and went to Crayton to Matt would have something to talk about. So.....
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: A thought and a question about McDermott
Thank God he is gone. It's just too bad that JP didn't hire Fred when he called the first time. Fred could not have done half the damage we have seen the program go through in the last several years.

Re: A thought and a question about McDermott
CB and WJ wouldn't have been drafted if not for Mac . But seriously I don't WJ (atleast as the current #4 pick)can really count as being a McD player. I don't think WJ was every really committed to McD and if he had been as mature a player/person as he is now his time at ISU may have been much different.

Snap, another one bites the dust...

Creighton to Grand view. That's a significant step down.

Re: A thought and a question about McDermott
It was a walk-on gaurd going to a much smaller school where he will probably get playing time. I hate GMAC as much as the next guys, but this is not news. Let it go, Greg is someone elses problem now.
