Philip Bates Update...in case anyone's interested

Ohio to play two quarterbacks - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN

And, for what it's worth, they're now calling him "Phil" Bates.

My guess, Boo starts, Bates comes in later in every game, and than transfers before the end of the month

If he shortens his name even more, his facebook friends would have their own song...

He will be remembered for his catch against Iowa. Too bad, I think he could have been a nice Big 12 defensive back, I hope he is happy with his decision...or should I say his Dad's decision.

I was going to post something similar, but without this --->
What is Phil going to do if they choose a starter whose name isn't Phillip?

So what you're saying is, Bates is competing for playing time, even at Ohio.

Re: Philip Bates Update...in case anyone's interested

Phil is a friend of mine and i still defend his decision whole-heartedly. Phil was in a bad position... i mean he did leave when chizik was coach and cmon people, i prolly woulda left too if I knew I was the better QB on the team and was told id get 1/4 the snaps in the game and i only got 3 plays all game.

With that said I think Phil stays here... he would/should be our starting QB. No one has ever agreed with me on this stance but that is just my opinion. He was athletic and strong and fast and if you ask me I havnt seen much to say that he is a WORSE passer than anyone we currently have.

Good Luck Phil and I hope you and the "Fightin' Solich's" have a great year

Looks like he still can't pass worth a darn. So the kid transfers to a lesser conference and a lesser team and ends up playing the exact same role. I wonder if he will blame the coaches at this stop or just accept that he can't throw the ball well enough to be a full time QB.
If he would have just accepted his role, he could have been a starting WR in the Big 12

If he hadn't up and quit on his teammates the day before leaving for the Baylor game... I might agree with you.

So your saying Philip could start for us. However, he can't start fro Ohio U?
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Problem was he wasn't the better QB. Most people noticed that. Now he is in the MAC doing the exact same thing. Two different schools, two different coaches and he finds himself in the same situation. He is a great kid, great runner that can throw a little. There is no way he is a better passer than Tiller or Arnaud. He isn't even a better passer than Boo Jackson. Don't take my word for it, take the word of two different D1 coaching staffs.
FWIW- He had a 45% completion% and a worse efficiency rating then Arnaud did in 2008. in 2008, Arnaud threw for 61% completion.

Also think you should wait until the end of this season to really judge

Yeah, bad position or not, you don't bail on your teamates mid-season. Especially when there was absolutely nothing to gain by quitting before December.
