Now is when I begin to really miss Cyclone.....
Baseball. The basketball season is about to mercifully end, and football is months away. It all leaves a void in Cyclone sports for me - a real downer. My favorite time of the year is spring and summer weather wise, and the baseball that comes with it.
All I'll read about in the OWH is Nebraska, Creighton, and yes, even Iowa baseball. I really miss the Cyclones fielding a team. I know about the financial situation and all, but it really is sad that ISU doesn't have a team. Actually, it borders on un-American.
I hope the hype about new TV contracts for the Big 12 and increased revenue for ISU come true and maybe, just maybe ISU can - PLAY BALL! - again.

It would be really nice to have a team. Unfortunately it probably won't happen in the near future.

I know it's unlikely, but for those of you who are at least interested in college baseball, Iowa is the lone D-I team left in the state, and is slated to be pretty solid this year. I know it may pain you to watch and cheer for the Hawks, but they are pretty fun to watch.

If the Cyclones had one I would watch them over an MLB team I don't care about. But you say they're supposed to be pretty good? I could watch them.

Last year they made an amazing run to the tournament finals, and return most of that team.

I wouldn't watch one of their games if they fielded a MLB team.

Actually, I usually attend the annual game between Iowa and Creighton here in Omaha, mainly because most of my family are Iowa fans and they drag me there. But I'm a Cyclone and there is no substitute as far as I'm concerned.

If Iowa State had baseball and no one went to watch it, did it really exist? Who misses ISU baseball? All ten people I saw at the one game I was at in college back in 2000.
Why bring back a sport no one went to, cared about, our gave money to? I love baseball but our team sucked, our stadium sucked and fan support sucked.
Gosh that felt good....

What did you do when the baseball team came out of the gate sucking, like they usually did? I understand people saying not having baseball is unamerican but I find college baseball fairly unamerican as it is. Unless it's little league the metal bat has no place in a batter's hands IMO.
Bringing back a non-revenue male sport is more trouble than it is worth. We would have to add that many scholarships to add a non revenue woman's sport to fufill the Title 9 requirements. So basically to be terrible and lose money at one sport that no one ever watched we would have to add a 2nd sport that we would be terrible at and have no fans either. Not worth it.

Gosh that felt good.... If I remember correctly, ISU played pretty well in the final Big 12 tournament they played in. I think I remember them finishing in the final 4 or 5 in that tournament, and playing pretty tough at the end of the last season. Can't really say they sucked.
Yeah I attended games in Ames where the attendance was pretty meager, but if the money was there and hyped properly by the marketeers, it could be shown some interest. And, yeah, (this could happen), a trip to the CWS would be so cool. I'm a dreamer, I know. Hoping and dreaming of things that aren't, but could be, that's the Cyclone way.
I remember pre-Orr when basketball was a real joke too, few seemed to care.

Re: Now is when I begin to really miss Cyclone.....
I know the easy thing for people to say is nobody went to games when ISU had a team. All I can say is times are different. Message boards and social networking are much more prevalent and that would lead to larger crowds. Iowa State also has an athletic director that has made it a goal to improve the venue's for each athletic team.
As cyowa said, it does seem very un-American to not have a baseball team.
