Got a new tailgating vehicle...
Got it for a pretty good price. May just leave the paint job. I will try and upload new pics as I work on it.
The steering wheel was a little beat up, so added the first ISU item.

What did you give for it?

Well everyone that I kept finding like this was going for around $2,000 - $3,000. This has brand new tires (worth $900) and was owned by a church and still got it for $1,000. Drove it all the way home from Manchester as well.

Seeing how you got it from a church, I suggest painting in cardinal and gold something on it saying along the lines:
Ames, IA: God's Country.

Re: Got a new tailgating vehicle...
So you are saying you bought 4 tires and they threw in the vehicle for free....
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Got a new tailgating vehicle...
If I were you going to paint it, I would design a graphic wrap for it. I mean, I figure you saved $1500 to $2000 purchasing it for $1000. So throw $1500 to $2000 into the decals and you have the ultimate machine.
These guys have done a racecar or two for a friend of mine and he's had really good luck. They are in Ames too. Chase Signs & Graphics | Vehicle Wraps - Lettering - Signs - Banners - Stickers
Just my two cents, I'm just trying to live vicariously through your purchase of my dream vehicle!!

Re: Got a new tailgating vehicle...
I'd love to get my own tailgating rig and customize it, but my biggest question is where do people store these things? Also, how much is insurance for a "bus" type vehicle? And are you required to have a specialized license to drive something like that?

You need a CDL if it hauls more than 15 people or weighs more than something along the lines of 10 ton. And a vehicle like this falls into neither of those categories.

$1000?
That's a damn steal. I thought I was pumped to get my hunk of junk for $400.
It has a gold roof now and is MUCH more faded.

I have been looking at doing the same thing. I have all sort of plans for building a grill on the back.. and a bar.... built in stereo and tv... awnings and fridge.
I have access to place that crushes old trailers and campers... so I can strip the items I need to put on it. I also have grand plans for large flag poles and a great paint job.
Good luck and keep us updated.... building it is half the fun.

Great deal! We bought an old 1977 military ambulance last summer and are excited to get going on that project. Welcome to the club!
