The Maintenance Shop shout out!
Doing some Youtube watching today - listening to some James Cotton, etc. and the first thing I notice is his shirt. It's old school video, but I thought it was kind of a neat ISU reference!

That video background looks like the Maintenance Shop.

See I wasn't sure....I only went there a few times and remember it seeming smaller for some reason...

Re: The Maintenance Shop shout out!
I went to the Maintenance Shop at least once a week in the late 70's and early 80's and I think that's where this video was indeed shot.
I've only been back on campus twice in the last 28 years... so what's the status of the Maintenance Shop these days? Is it still there and in it's same form and location in the Memorial Union?
I sure wish I still had one of those shirts!

I sure wish I still had one of those shirts! I haven't been in a couple years, but last time I was there the stained glass was still there, serving lunches and having rocking concerts!

Great - I'll have it make it a stop the next time I can get to Ames... maybe get me another shirt!

No more lunches but the concerts are still rocking. I don't know about anymore but they had some great indie shows from 2004-2009 while I was there. The M-Shop is one of the hidden gems of ISU in my opinion. It seems like so many students have never even heard of it which is a shame.

The M-Shop was indeed an institution when I was going to I-State from '78 - '83. Lots of great indie bands and others! It was THE gathering place as soon as students finished their last class on Fridays. I hardly ever missed being there on those Fridays... and had the Saturday morning hangovers to prove it...

Re: The Maintenance Shop shout out!
There's a James McMurtry interview/performance on youtube where he's wearing an M-Shop shirt, too. Very cool.

Seen a few shows there since my days in Ames. Little Charlie and the Nightcats, anyone?
Check out who's been there over the years. http://www.m-shop.com/pastshows.html

I used to play in a local garage band in the early 90's, we practiced and did some minor recording in the M-shop because our bass player ran the sound booth. One of my favorite gems of the entire ISU campus.

Re: The Maintenance Shop shout out!
Two of my more memorable M-Shop moments... seeing The Pousette-Dart Band in '79 and watching a showing of the cult movie, "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"...
Good stuff!
