I passed a solar car on highway 20 between Fort Dodge and Webster City on Friday. I am pretty sure it was the Iowa State one. They had a car in front and behind flashing hazard lights. Did they stop in Sioux City before going to Kansas City or something?

I just looked at that link you posted. That is really cool that the first race started at Epcot at Disney World. The solar car I saw on Friday was gray so it must not have been the ISU one.

There it is... on the PrISUm past cars link there's a "Location". A car from 2005-2008 shows location as Kansas City.
Good publicity as I don't think there are any other regional schools participating. Good PR for ISU engineering.
