Never dawned on me that ISU was the only university in the Big 12 without a baseball team.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Re: Keeler: Baseball's revival at Iowa State 'not realistic'

I understand it seems to be popular to complain about not having baseball or wishing it would come back but its all just silly. Nobody cared about baseball when it was here and if it came back, outside of the first season or two maybe, nobody would care if we got it back. If you ask me we need to dump more sports and concentrate on programs we can be competitive in. Why would we ever bring baseball back? To get our brains beat in by schools that really care about baseball or are even able to get players that would want to play in 30/40 degree temps for half their season? Just a dumb argument.

Re: Keeler: Baseball's revival at Iowa State 'not realistic'

I think the only way that this could ever happen is if we create a network with other schools and we can at least partially fund a baseball program with extra income from the biggest spring draw. We will undoubtedly lose a little income if we were to be part of such a network. Otherwise, it isn't going to happen. Let's make football and basketball better first be sinking money into them and then move on to wrestling, womens basketball, volleyball etc. We aren't a school that can just throw money at a sport that will lose a significant amount of money. We have enough of those sports. I would think there would have to be a large amount of donor money pushing baseball for it to happen and if that hasn't happened yet, it won't. Cal was in a position to cut baseball and the donors got together and helped save it.

Yeah, and we'll never have a decent golf team either. Oh wait...

I want baseball back at ISU. It was one of three sports my parents took me to as a kid, the others being football and men's basketball. It was awesome, I loved it. Bring it and/or hockey back as varsity sports. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

it would be a waste to put a ton of money into baseball when we could be spending it on basketball, wrestling, volleyball, and bowling in Trice!

The athletic department will hemorrhage money with both of those sports.

Meanwhile, there are competitive club teams for both baseball and hockey and ISU that make it a lot of fun for the fans. Go watch those.

Unless you're willing to pay to bring back the full programs?

Completely agree and to those that want to bring baseball back need to come to grips with the cost. I would assume baseball is probably a very expensive sport to field becuase of all the travel costs. We need to take the new found tv money and strengthen our current programs and completely separate ISU from Mountain West, Conf USA, Big East and low level BCS programs.

Re: Keeler: Baseball's revival at Iowa State 'not realistic'

the only problem with bringing hockey back is that we would lose most of our current players. ive talked to people that are friends with people on the hockey team and a couple of them had gotten paid in canada before they came here to play so they would be ineligible if we made it a varsity sport
