ISU Academic Standings
Not that it matters much in this realignment garbage, but here is how ISU stacks up against all these BCS teams fighting for positions. Threw in BYU too. This is per 2012 US News rankings. I really can't see the Pac being happy about the Texas Tech. Rutgers was surprisingly low too. West Virginia? Jeepers. We stack up well for the Big 10, for whatever that's worth. Rankings stopped at 194. National University | Rankings | Data | US News

1. I bet the PAC presidents can't wait to bring #160 Texas Tech into their conference. You talk about an academic, cultural, and geographic fit with the Pacific coast brainy schools: Texas Tech fits right in.
2. Conferences are also fighting over #164 West Virginia. That should tell us something.

Re: ISU Academic Standings
Can't wait to see the ACC or Big 10 fighting over Rutgers.

Apparently there would be political pressure for UT to move only with Tech. But if it's a move to the Pacific Coast conference, Tech's inclusion seems to lack academics, geography, TV market (Texas would be sufficient in that regard) and really doesn't add high-profile football success.

Re: ISU Academic Standings
I really wouldn't put much stock in US News as an accurate gauge for academic prestige. Look where Auburn and Alabama are ranked...... Really?

"Reputation" and "perception" play a large role in their rankings, IIRC. As do endowments.
Anyway, you may be referring to the wrong Rutgers in the rankings, I think... Rutgers-New Brunswick (the main campus, where the Scarlet Knights play, IIRC) is ranked 68th. That puts them tied for 8th in the Big Ten. Rutgers-Newark is ranked 143.

Re: ISU Academic Standings
Average ranking:
ACC (includes Pitt and Syracuse): 50
Big East (excludes Pitta and Syracuse, includes TCU): 125
Big Ten (includes Nebraska): 56
Big Twelve (excludes Nebraska and Colorado): 100
Pac-12 (includes Colorado and Utah): 79
SEC: 99
Conference schools in top 10:
P12: 1 (1/12 = ~8.33%)
ACC:1 (1/14 =~ 7.14%)
BE: 0
B1G: 0
BXII: 0
SEC:0 Conference schools in top 25 (inclusive of schools in top 10):
P12: 4 (33.33%)
ACC: 4 (28.57%)
SEC: 1 (8.33%)
BE: 0
B1G: 0
BXII: 0 Conference schools in the top 50 (inclusive...)
ACC: 7 (50%)
B1G: 5 (41.67%)
P12: 5 (41.67%)
BXII: 1 (10%)
SEC: 1 (8.33%)
BE: 0
Conference schools in the top 75 (inclusive...)
B1G: 11 (91.67%)
ACC: 12 (85.71%)
P12: 5 (41.67%)
SEC: 4 (33.33%)
BXII: 3 (30%)
BE: 2 (28.57%) Conference schools in the top 100 (inclusive...)
B1G: 11 (91.67%)
ACC: 12 (85.71%)
P12: 6 (50%)
BXII: 5 (50%)
BE: 3 (42.86%)
SEC: 5 (41.67%) ISU specific rankings if added as member of following conferences:
BXII: 5th of 10 (current); Ranks t43rd out of 69 (I think. Always get messed up with the whole 'tied' thing)
ACC: 13th of 15
BE: t3rd of 8
B1G: 12th of 13
P12: 7th of 13
SEC: 6th of 13 Personal summary: My misgivings about the USN&W rankings aside, academically, I don't think you'd be 'out of place' from any of the conferences, except maybe the ACC (half their number are in the top 50, with nearly everybody in the top 100). That said, the numbers play out something similar to the B1G, and I don't think you'd be academically out of place here, so...
The top schools in the P12 are well above you guys in ranking, but then you're 7th, just after Colorado. You'd be in the top half of the SEC in rankings as well. You're tied for 3rd in the Big East, with TCU (and nobody is even close after you...)

AAU member universities are on the leading edge of innovation, scholarship, and solutions that contribute to the nation's economy, security, and well-being. The 59 AAU universities in the United States award more than one-half of all U.S. doctoral degrees and 55 percent of those in the sciences and engineering.
The AAU is a invitation only membership group of the top RESEARCH schools in the country.

Re: ISU Academic Standings
ISU and the AAU (including ISU, if ISU were to join the below conferences)
BXII: 1 of 5 members (currently)
ACC: 1 of 7 members (Syracuse withdrew from AAU)
BE: 1 of 2 members (Rutgers is the lone member remaining)
B1G: 1 of 12 members (Nebraska recently kicked out of AAU)
P12: 1 of 9 members
SEC: 1 of 3 members

Re: ISU Academic Standings
Again, Rutgers is NOT ranked 143rd. Their main campus, New Brunswick (where the Scarlet Knights play) is ranked 68th. They are ranked above Iowa, ISU, and many others. Re: ISU Academic Standings
Yup, looks like I had Rutgers wrong. Skipped the 1st and didn't realize they had two campuses.

Re: ISU Academic Standings
im not buying those rankings since CU is ahead of ISU

Re: ISU Academic Standings
There are 3-4 different ranking systems that have their own ranking priorities. We fall anywhere from the mid 40s to the mid 90s. I take all of these with a grain of salt.
