This will get the coach fired in record time: New Mexico coach Mike Locksley has become the first coaching casualty of the season. The Lobos' coach was fired Sunday, a source told CBSSports.com, less than a day after a New Mexico recruit was arrested for DWI while driving a car registered to Locksley. Joshua Butts, 19, was pulled over in a dark blue SUV near University Stadium moments before Saturday’s kickoff. The vehicle is registered to Locksley and his wife. According to the police report, he told police he was brought from Chicago to play football and that he was on his way to the game in, "coaches car." -

Re: Locksley is Gone!
Locksley has a 2-26 record (both wins by a combined five points), he punched an assistant in 2009, and now a recruit got a DWI in a car registered to Locksley. The guy should never have another college coaching job.

Re: Locksley is Gone!
So, was Locksley being considered by us, or UNM was considering CPR at some point.....or what? Not sure why we're discussing a UNM coach so much lately on this board unless there was some sort of connection with our program....

The recent mega thread and subsequent addition threads have discussed (among other things ) UNM as a possible target. Other than the large population of the Albuquerque metro of about 600-700k, NM is a huge state and half the population of Iowa and I dont see it as an attractive addition.
Locksley was previously the oc at Illinois and had a decent time there- that is probably the closest connection.

He lost his house, father, mother, cat and gold fish, wasn't a good day, but he still has Blinkin.

this ain't exactly, the Mississippi...I'm on the East bank, now I'm on the West bank.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -
Re: Locksley is Gone!
IIRC Locksley was picked over Dan McCarney because the search committee followed the trend of hiring a young and up-coming coordinator.
