Most painful loss dealt by ISU
I'm bummed after reading the thread about ISU's most painful loss, and someone asked if we were Okie Lite's worst. So I thought I'd turn it.
Which school and sport would list ISU as one of its worse losses?
Football: WBB MBB What else?

Re: Most painful loss dealt by ISU
There is no way EVER that any Iowa fan would consider ISU its worse loss, no matter how true it is.

Re: Most painful loss dealt by ISU
Gotta be OSU last year, we single handedly took away their national championship.

It's OSU football in '11 and I don't think there's a terribly close 2nd.

It isn't as big because they weren't as close. That was still at the beginning of the year. For OSU, this year, it was simple: Beat ISU and OU and play for the title. We took that away from them.
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read. -

I really don't think the Iowa win is all that close. For starters, when we beat Iowa, nobody was expecting them to have the season that they ended up having. When we beat Okie State, they were on the home stretch with the title game in sight. Also, I don't think Iowa would have made the title game in 2002 even if they would have beat us. Ohio State was also undefeated in the B1G and was ranked number 2 headed into the title game. Iowa dodged the big boys with their schedule and was exposed in the Orange Bowl and got beat pretty bad by USC, while Okie State played in what may have been the toughest league last year and bounced back to take care of Stanford in their BCS game.
So in short, OSU would have played for the title if not for our loss, and would have had a fighting chance at it. Iowa likely wouldn't have played for the title even if they had won that game, and I don't think they would have had a great shot even if they had gotten in.

The most painful loss was that of the ref when he broke his arm last Sat.

Re: Most painful loss dealt by ISU
The Iowa loss was the 5th straight time we'd beat them, its not in the same category as the Okie St game.

Re: Most painful loss dealt by ISU
There's very little argument the OSU and IA wins mentioned above are #1/#2.
In basketball some mention needs to be made of the Orr team that knock Big X champion Michigan out of the tournament. The one with the legendary, "Looks like the Varsity playing the JV" comment. Ronnie Virgil and Elmer Robinson (he was a freshman) were on that team. I think Hornacek was too; I think he threw the inbounds pass to Robinson for the dunk that sealed the win.
No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine. -
Re: Most painful loss dealt by ISU
Iowa State's campaign to single-handedly destroy the happiness of Oklahoma State this year has got to easily be the most damage we've ever done to another school's psyche.

Mike Sanford is probably still feeling the side effects of this one.
