An Amazing AD in Pollard
I wanted to share the interaction that I had with Jamie Pollard yesterday. It shows just how amazing our athletic department is. I emailed Jamie about getting a basketball and football signed for a Relay for Life charity event to help honor my mother-in-law who passed away less then a year ago battling cancer. I emailed him not really expecting a quick reply and just hoping for a form email back. A few hours after I sent the email I got a personal message from Jamie saying they would be happy to help me in my efforts for my mother-in-law.
This truly means a lot to me. My families are huge Iowa State fans and my parents in law were season tickets holders for football and basketball. She was even buried with her Iowa State sweatshirt that she always wore. The kindness showed my Jamie and the athletic department brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my face. This is just one of the reasons we have a such a great fan base. Our athletic department cares about their fans and want them to be Cyclones for life.
Just my sentimental bull crap for a Friday.

It seems like he has always understood that the fan/AD relationship is a two-way street.

Re: An Amazing AD in Pollard
I can vouch as well for Jamie being a top notch person AND AD. I work at the university and have met him on several occasions and now, whenever we see each other, we usually chat for several minutes about our families, athletics, and anything else that is happening.
I was working with a situation where a student passed away and they were a big Cyclone fan. Jamie was aware of this, and without hesitation an official coaches shirt showed up for the family so the student could be buried in it. The family was just in awe of his kindness and generosity. I can think of many other times he's done similar things.

Very cool. Good to know that he has a caring side. I have to admit that I didn't care for JP back when he made you a buy a season ticket if you wanted to attend the Iowa game, and I didn't care for his selection of Chizick as HC. But, he has been a huge contributor to putting butts back in the seats through his hirings of Rhoads and Hoiberg. My only worry is that other schools will come calling for his services.

In my brief interactions with him he always is all class. He is the best thing to happen to ISU that I can ever remember. And that is not just athletics. My biggest worry about ISU is that he gets poached at some point.

Re: An Amazing AD in Pollard
I really believe that if ISU is to continue our current direction of improved success, we need to keep JP for the next 5+ years. If we can do that, we'll be in fantastic shape during that time in football, MBB, WBB, VB, etc.

We need to all email Jamie Pollard so he knows ISU can't have another school poach Jamie Pollard.....and also email him about how all of us on here are split between whether or not we should have went for 2 or 3 vs Okie State on Tuesday night. -
Re: An Amazing AD in Pollard
Has he had some misfires with hiring in the past...sure.
But the guy is top notch and the good he has done for ISU is over the moon.

Re: An Amazing AD in Pollard
I've been a 100% fan of Jamie Pollard for a while now. The guy is a class act. Any time I've also emailed Jamie at all, I've freakishly got a personally typed email back within 5 minutes. Now I realize that probably his secretary or someone is actually the ones responding, but they were very personal and it still meant a lot. Obviously, Jamie has some type of rules set up where they try really hard to respond to emails well.

He can't control everything, especially weasels leaving on their own accord. I can't imagine anyone else I'd rather have in charge of the department than JP. The guy has done an outstanding job bringing excitement back to Cyclone sports, all on a tiny budget.
