    Iowa States own Betsy Saina ran 3 seconds under the all-time collegiate 10,000m record tonight at Stanford- 31:15!! Breaking her former teammates (Lisa Koll/Uhl) record.


    Corey Ihmels sure has done some amazing things with the women on the team since taking over the helm 7 years ago.

    Saina is redshirting this outdoor season and competed unattached, so Koll still holds the collegiate record.

    As a former distance runner, I can appreciate that. I saw a tweet the other day that 3 of the top 17 times in the world are by current and or former Iowa Staters. Represent!
    Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd

    I also just read Betsy is a Kenyan national and is preparing for her country's Olympic trials.

    Kinda of amazing ISU can attract world-class runners to train in Ames (we've been doing it for years, just glad to see it continue).

    Congrats to Betsy and her coaches. With recent successes, maybe the entire track program will get back to the glory days in the 80s and early 90s. And in a few months the new track facility, part of the replacement for the old SW Complex, will be ready, which may help recruiting.
