The cookoff rivalry between Douglas and Shane Burnham should be a great one going forward.

I have confidence in Jamie Pollard that he will always do whats best for Iowa State Univ.

Chris,
Wouldn't you agree with regard to expansion (which, getting back to 12 teams isn't really expansion) that the Big 12 should either add two teams or rename the conference?

Not only would it be beneficial for us to have a chance to play in a Big XII championship game, but I agree with Rhoads....we need to get back to an 8 game conference slate.

The days of 8 game conference schedules are long gone in my opinion. With the amount of cash that TV networks are throwing around, they aren't going to pay for Iowa State vs. Toledo.
I really believe that even if the Big 12 goes back to 12, it will be a 9 game schedule format.

I mean - it is pretty stupid when you consider that the Big Ten has 12 teams and the Big 12 has 10 teams. But how confusing would it be if the Big Ten was all of the sudden the Big 12 and the Big 12 was called the Big Ten...
Get what I'm saying? It's all about branding.

Get what I'm saying? It's all about branding. This.. it really dosent bother me that the big 12 only has 10 teams... Am I in the minority that i would rather keep the name big 12 if they had 10, 12, 14, or 16 teams??

No. The time to switch to a new name was back when the Big 8 absorbed the Texas schools to form the conference. Now the best way forward is to stick with the recognized name.

Get what I'm saying? It's all about branding. That's the hidden value in the Notre Dame partial member proposal. Networks may be more open to an 8-game schedule if we can guarantee 1 or 2 marquee Notre Dame away games included in the non-conference package. The beauty of that for ISU is that it will probably be a rarity that we are one of the schools scheduled by Notre Dame as part of that arrangement, unless we start reeling off a K-State or OSU type hot streak. That would mean we could go back to Iowa, an FCS school, and two MAC/C-USA type schools for our non-con. Why do people hate this idea so much again?

ACC is going to 9 games as well though
Big East will likely do 9 as well if they survive

A month or so ago, I saw an ESPN special on the guy who "invented" the conference championship game for the SEC. Most hated it at the time, but the show gave it much credit for the upsurge of the SEC.
