Iowa State’s Nelson seeks national 10K title

Meaghan Nelson.
Elite distance runner.
Still a mind-blowing combination?
“I’m starting to think more that I can compete with all these really talented girls, which I think helps my confidence,” said Nelson, a former Xavier standout and rising Iowa State star who will compete in Thursday’s 10,000-meter run in the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium. “It still kind of floors me to think about competing — to be in the top three, or top one at Nationals. Hopefully things are going well and I feel good. I’m definitely getting more used to it, but I don’t think it’s something anyone could ever get completely used to, to be honest.”

Hope she does well. I'm following the video feed for our kids. Great job by Kemboi, hoping the best for Elahi and Okoro tonight. Nice career for Ian Warner.

Kianna Elahi made the finals in the womens 400 m hurdles, 5th fastest qualifying. Eseroghene Okoro was 11th, but she's a jr.
Edward Kemboi (ISU) has the 2nd fastest qualifying 800 m in his heat, behind a kid from EIU (Erik Sowinski). It sets up some IA drama in the finals. I look forward to a great race, and I think the crowd should be great, Kemboi is only a soph! We need a national champion.

Thanks. We will be cheering for them tomorrow.

Some ridiculously fast times. Sucks for Ian that the 100 was the fastest prelim ever. I think 10.08 was the last spot to finals. The previous fastest year's cut off was 10.20. In any "normal" year Ian might have been right at the cut off point for finals.
