That being said, just as well rescind it, though. :realmad:
I don't know about you, but if I google the name, right there at the top on the right is his smiling face with a picture from "isualum.org" and "Education: ..... Iowa State University". Crazy like a fox.

Johnny doesn't look like the dead hooker type. Dead sports commentator, maybe.
Re: Should ISU rescind Graham Spanier's Distinguished Alumni Award?
yes, should be rescinded. Don't need to tout that connection.
No need for fanfare, as others have said. just do it and move on.
Re: Should ISU rescind Graham Spanier's Distinguished Alumni Award?
They at least need to update his profile, especially the Geoffroy quote... Graham Spanier 2004 - Iowa State University Alumni Association
Re: Should ISU rescind Graham Spanier's Distinguished Alumni Award?
It's time to revoke the distinguished alumni award. Sad that we weren't more proactive on this. No press event necessary, just revoke it, send him a letter, and remove any mention of him from our university.Graham Spanier charged in Jerry Sandusky case - ESPN

If they did it, they did it right because I didn't even know about it... :)
Re: Should ISU rescind Graham Spanier's Distinguished Alumni Award?
Yep, I remember when the banner was taken down. One day I was walking on the sidewalk that runs north/south just to the west of Beardshear and noticed that there was a different banner there. No fanfare or anything.

THIS.
Graham B. Spanier, the former president of Penn State, was charged Thursday with helping to cover up the child abuse allegations involving Jerry Sandusky that have roiled the university and its famed football program over the past year.
Very sad, former alum.

His banner may be down, but the website still lists him as a winner.
Distinguished Alumni Award - Iowa State University Alumni Association
Time for ISUAA to do the right thing, remove his name, short press release, nothing more.
Re: Should ISU rescind Graham Spanier's Distinguished Alumni Award?
You guys are making a big deal about nothing..... His banner is down. Who the flip cares?

The award is for those who have made preeminent contributions to their profession. I do not believe harboring a child molester and predator has been a preeminent contribution as president of Penn State. Cheapens the award.

Probably the same people who drug the complaining and hand slapping out for 6 months last time around... I am sure there are plenty of convicted felons that are affiliated with other distinguished alum lists. Just remove the name if it is going to get everyone's panties in a bunch and don't even do a press release.
Does anyone really even pay attention to distinguished alums? I know it was pretty much nowhere on my list when I was looking at ISU, and nowhere on my list when I cut them my donation checks.
Sandusky was the one hurting the kids, while harboring is obviously a felony, some people on this board are making it sound like Spanier selected the kids and took them to Sandusky's office

As an alum I'd prefer that a quick internet search not reveal his ISU ties...but what are you gonna do, he HAS ISU ties. But hey, John Wayne Gacy worked at KFC and there's no way in hell I'm quitting KFC. Banner's down. Good enough for me.
