We only discuss in terms of pre or post JP when it comes to Cyclone athletics. I don't know enough about the actual past ADs themselves. I just know we have a really great one now. Him and our current coaches need to stay around for a LONG time. Everything is in place for the foundation of our athletics to really take off. I am just so pumped for what our amazing facilities are gonna do for recruiting in basketball and football.

Best thing Gene did was fire walden and not screw up the basketball program. And leave when BVD was not an AD yet...

Anyone not putting JP as best is on drugs. BVDV is the worst.

Best: Jamie Pollard, do I need an explanation? Facility upgrades for football, basketball, soccer, track, and softball. Not to mention probably ISU fan support is at an all time high and we have seen some unforgettable seasons with football, men's and women's basketball, and volleyball.
Worst: Bruce Vandevelde, had some good teams (basketball and football in early 2000s) but no support from the athletic department to sustain it. For example, I think the only facility upgrade for major sports was the football practice facility.

Completely agree with this. It's easy to say Gene Smith since he made a few good coaching hires and the MBB/Football programs had great success during his tenure, but JP's got him licked in terms of selling tickets, fundraising, improving facilities, etc. These are the things a successful AD should be focusing their energy on, IMO. Plus, I absolutely love that JP emphasizes every sport in the athletics department.

FYI, Walden wasn't fired, he resigned (if under pressure, it wasn't publicized although a LOT of fans had enough of him at time of resignation).
