Re: Announcement is here: It's Mediacom
A few thoughts from myself:
-Happy for ISU with this as it is great for the University's bottom line
-Somewhat underwhelmed, but again, it is a step forward, so I'm happy for them
-I love finally having something that forces Hawk fans to pay money to ISU as ISU fans have been forced to pay money to the Hawks through the Big 10 Network for years now with their cable subscriptions
-Mediacom.... ugh. I just find it unfortunate that we have to partner with such a crappy company
-No HD sucks as it is 2012 and HD is pretty much a standard for anything new and exciting in my book
-I really shouldn't whine as much as I do as I'm a very out-spoken cable-cutter and really have no intention to get any cable TV or satellite whatever ISU does, and DEFINITELY not Mediacom
-I'll continue to cherish my Cyclones.tv internet subscription with an HDMI cable to my TV (I've got really used to this over the years) and will enjoy it in actual HD
-Lastly, to those out-of-staters griping about not having access to this new Mediacom channel on their cable subscriber, please pipe down. You can easily still subscribe to the online version and with that, you still have better access to ISU sports than you ever had in the past.

Think about it... We are one of 3 schools that has a dedicated channel exclusively to themselves. Is it perfect? No. But can Iowa fans or Nebraska fans or any other midwest team turn on a channel and get their fix? Some of the time, yes, but all the time??
Whether you use a shovel or a spoon is less important than digging in the right spot. I don't get the sense most think it is bad, I think people wanted more.
But it is great exposure in Iowa and the surrounding states, the more people that can watch the better. Also it is great that ISU controls the content, they don't have to answer to mediacom. Unlike the LHN.

If I don't live in the country I would dump directv to get mediacom. And I really like my directv. This is a great for Mediacom.

Unlike the LHN. This......at least CPR hopefully won't be complaining about Mediacom showing his practices on CTV because Cyclones.tv won't be dumb enough to film those, unlike what Brown has to put up with at Texas.

Re: Announcement is here: It's Mediacom
An okay move, JP hit a stand up double on this one. Had it been in HD it's a homerun.

Re: Announcement is here: It's Mediacom
Hopefully their 'plan' to get it in HD comes about sooner rather than later. At very least they should get it on in HD in the markets that have freed up bandwidth by going all digital.
Hell, with how many have HD now, why not just go HD-only, when its primarily a sports network.

Re: Announcement is here: It's Mediacom
I think this is pretty awesome and a great step. There are only two schools with anything like that right now. If you compare it to the Longhorn Network, remember that is only on AT&T Uverse for a national carrier, and outside of Texas you have to have their biggest TV package, NOT just the sports pack. So to expect us to out do something like with our more limited resources is just silly.
Did the people complaining really expected to just sit down and flip on the Cyclones.tv channel through any provider anywhere in the country? You couldn't even do that the first year or two of the Big Ten Network. I guess some people just like to complain, it would be interesting to see said people's annual donation amount and what they are doing to help.
I'll leave some space at the bottom of this post for the fix'd it for ya and other lame sarcastic responses.

Re: Announcement is here: It's Mediacom
Glad the streaming is still available. We dumped Mediacom because the cable never worked and the repair man called me a lying female dog when he could never fix it. We attempted to get their internet once and they couldn't get that to work either. I'll just plug the laptop into the tv.

Still trying to compute the advantage of this over CycloneTV. Outside of Iowa, seems of no value?
Fox and ESPN have been the biggies in the past couple of years on Direct TV. Most every game this season was on --most on HD. Sports Pack.....I subscribe only for the months I want.

Re: Announcement is here: It's Mediacom
Look at is this way:
Only two schools right now have a 24 hour tv channel dedicated to SPORTS. They are Iowa State and Texas. (BYUtv has a lot of non-sports programming). There is a good chance that Cyclones.tv will be in more homes than LHN. Plus, those who don't have it available, have the option to buy the Internet package. LHN does not give that option. There are still some things that are minuses like no HD and only Mediacom (which I cannot get), but I think we just took the lead as the #1 best all-sports university specific channel.

The people who only have SD cable are mostly the same ones who don't have the will or equipment to hook up their computer to their TV for online cyclones.tv. Most of the ones who have HD and care about HD have the equipment to make it happen through online cyclones.tv. This move maximizes exposure while giving everyone access to HD if they really want it - online.

Super excited about this. Hopefully this means more things to watch then what we currently have with CTV. Not complaining about CTV but if we have something that is on 24/7 we will be watching the same stuff over and over.
