need advice from current mediacom subscribers

First: this is not a thread to bash Mediacom, so please stay on topic.

I am a 15 year Directv subscriber considering a switch to mediacom. Can a current mediacom subscriber please respond...

I see they have a whole-home service plan that allows 3 converters and the DVR can play in any room. The DVR also records 2 shows at the same time. So, does that mean I can record 6 shows at once (2 per converter) or is there only 1 DVR and I can only record 2 shows at a time max?

They have a bundle package at $109.99 that includes internet and cable TV with 3 converters for 1 year. I am paying $65 for internet from mediacom and about $95 for TV from Directv including 3 receivers that all record 2 shows each. How much will my package go up after the first year?

Is there anything else I need to know about mediacom service?

Do not switch to Mediacom, you will regret it. Can you switch your internet to Centurylink? It's much cheaper and more reliable.

Sounds like there is one DVR that can record two shows at once. That does cramp your style a bit, as it's amazing how many times we are doing that, and then you are stuck watching one of the two shows that you wanted to record, as you can't do that and watch a third.

My internet with Mediacom is way, way faster than it was with Directv.

Not going to bash mediacom (though I want to)

I have to have mediacom (landlord) after spending 4 years with DirecTV and CenturyLink for internet.

Mediacom customer service isn't that great. Prices constantly rising.

I had an internet issue with them and it took 4 different visits over 3 months before the problem was solved. Why did it take 4 visits? Because the first 3 people did the exact same thing.

Not true.

Technically after the promo period it's $183.27. Well, then $178.56 the next month. Then 181.03. Then $174.66 then $182.71......

But to the OP, yes it is a 2 show max on the DVR box. If you are recording a show you can watch another channel. If you are recording two, you have to also be watching one of the two.

I've spent a little time on the internet, and one thing I know to be true is everyone thinks their cable company is the worst thing since Hitler.

The service is acceptable. You'll have issues, if you want it taken care of you need to go through the correct channels, I've found the website and Twitter to be the fastest, and you have to be persistent. If the price is right go for it, you can always switch to Dish Network next, and then back to DirecTV, and so on.

My directv can only record 2 shows at once with the whole home DVR. Also I am about to switch back to mediacom for internet as century link is terrible in my neighborhood. The opposite is true at my office where century link and mediacom internet are on about a equal footing.

I can't say its much cheaper when i looked at pricing between the two, not at comparable service levels.

And OP, you'll find most that complain about mediacom havent used it since when mediacom did suck a years ago. Nowadays? They have almost everything except for some of the extra pack channels in HD (though theyve made big leaps in that the last year or so, most of the sports pak is now HD), i rarely have any internet issues (in fact, i get far more than promised speeds). The only issues i have are cablecard related with my tivo, but those wouldntve even been an option on satellite. (also, mediacom will be rolling out their own boxes with the tivo software before too long here.

Their service isnt great, but whose is?

I switched from mediacom to directv a couple months ago: it'll blow you away how poor mediacom's dvr is compared to what you had with directv (especially with the premium channels/on demand... even the little things like fast forwarding backing up, etc).

I have dish network and cable only from Mediacom(12 mbs). It was 19.95 per month for the 1st year and 34.95 for the 2nd. I'm almost up so will go to 54.95 or something. I had DSL before and was constantly having issues. Since going to Mediacom I have not had a problem billing or service. As a benefit, you get the locals plus with MC22 with internet only. With speed test it shows 20+.

Will not get rid of dish since I use to tailgate otherwise would consider Mediacom. My Dish bill is 110+ and have 3 receivers. I would struggle with other DVRs as mine will record 2 shows and I can watch a recorded show or I can record 1 OTA, 1 sat channel and watch 1 sat channel or record 2 sat channels and watch OTA. My DVR since it is dual tuner allows you to PIP. Also, I can watch 1 sat channel and other rooms in my house can watch the other sat channel on channel 60. Nobody beats a Dish DVR.

Yeah we just switched to the hopper from dish & so far I like it way better than mediacom. It's nice being able to have actual HD (not just crappy digital) in 4 rooms of the house.

Also, the whole home DVR is pretty nice.

Still have mediacom internet. Speeds are good, but over the past 2 years it has been down way more than any internet ever should be.

I have DirecTV but Mediacom is my only option for internet. I recently learned you can basically get their TV subscriber rate without being a TV subscriber by signing a contract with them. We signed a two-year agreement and I'm paying $29.99 for 30mbps internet, after one year it goes up to $39.99. That is even cheaper than the bundle discount I got when I had all my services with them.

I know you sound mainly interested in switching your TV services but in the event you just want to save money I think you could save some on your internet if you inquired about a contract.
