But I know athletes on the team right now who are on books or 10% who have better times than the foreigners that come over on full ride. That is a fact.
You're right it's not Ihmels fault that I didn't improve, but going back to my earlier post, you can say the same for every american male that has ran under Ihmels. Isn't a coaches job to improve his athletes? Lord knows he is doing that and then some for the women, but the mens team is very poor and aside from Edward, times being run are dismal.
No matter what I post you're just going to disagree with me, but what insight on the program do you really have? You dodged my earlier question about running for the team so I'm going to assume you dont and never have. I ran for Ihmels and some of my best friends currently do.

But to Messi's point, even Ihmel's bio on Cyclones.com only talks about the women's team accomplishments. Not one mention of the men's team. Only two men are mentioned: All-American Kiel Uhl and four-time All-American Hillary Bor. Messi is calling for a replacement coach. His stated rationale is that too much money goes to foreigners instead other people. That is a bad rationale. Money goes to results.

LOL, so the only way to get a scholarship is to be running a school record? I was with you until you said 1:48, 3:45 or 14:00. The three fast 800s in ISU history were 1:48 and Edward just broke the record at 1:47. Only one, back in 1984, has run a 3:45. (yes, I'm talking indoor because that is what season it is). With your logic, only Edward would be on scholarship this year. Correct?

You're wrong -- somewhat like you, if someone isn't duly recognized for consistent outstanding performances, I'm generally against that. If others are being compensated for poor performances, I'm against that too, in general.
Did you stop running because you weren't improving? Or did you stop running because of the injustices you perceived going on around you regarding scholarships?

To get a full, 100% scholarship at ISU, I'd say that those are the times they would have to run. 100% scholarships are rare and only go to people who will be sure-fire all-Americans. That is the gist of what Bill Bergan told me about 20 years ago, and it is still the same today.

Regardless of the coach or the apparent bitterness by former student-athletes, Eddie had an outstanding run today and is a tribute to CyclONEs everywhere. GO CYCLONES!!!!!

Re: Edward Kemboi: beastmode over 1000m in NYC!
Complaining about a men's track coach who just had a guy run a school record today simply because a number of recruits are foreign? Stay classy.
Honestly, though, you are embarrassing Cyclones everywhere.

I'd like to see what Edward could run in a mile. He will surely place top 3 in the 800 at NCAAs this year indoors and if they ran a 1000 at Nats would likely be top 3 in that too.
Llamas ran a solid 3k last weekend I'll be interested so see how he does in the mile tomorrow.

I like Corey, think he still has time to do well w/ the men and the dynamic is a bit different in the world of men's track and field- even you have to admit that. The top American born distance kids usually will flock to Minnesota or Wiscy or a niche school in distance running. Schools in midwest w/o that ability have to go foreign on some level IMO.
I see Corey going more domestic in his distance recruiting over the past two years. Additonally, his money is not being poured into the distances as it was early in his tenure. I see more field event guys and jumpers (multi) than I have seen in quite sometime.
Yeah, Corey gets credit for Uhl's growth (aside from Uhl himself). Steve was a hurdle coach, not distance and Corey was the XC guy even then. Additonally, I think Marty Coolidge has improved, The sprinter from Madrid has improved, I think Sander has improved as well. There has not been the numbers I wanted from the men's program over the past few years that I want to see at all. Still, it is a HUGE improvement from what he inherited for a total program from the previous staff (who I liked as well).
New facility could provide some spark to recruiting efforts for the men and I think that is where it will have to start for him.
What are your thoughts on some of the guys in the program? Is Rico running indoor (he should have one indoor season left). Is Serem going to discover his talent?
FYI- to this day, I felt his biggest miss was getting Devin Allbaugh from PV instead of Irwin.
