I didnt say JP was making a spectacle at all... In fact i cant imagine that he did. My post was a generality about parents that do, since some replies in this thread acted like it was cool to do so.

I actually took a year off from coaching just to officiate so I could feel and experience the other side. Its not fun.
I in no way condone aggressiveness/name calling/taunting, but having fans and coaches complain about calls is part of the job you signed up for. If you can't handle some booing and complaining, quit reffing and have a past time that doesn't require as thick of skin. Parents and fans are passionate about their teams, I'm not going to ask them to stop so a ref can feel better about himself.

Iowa State AD apologizes after getting kicked out of high school game

When asked if Pollard was single out as a public figure the Colfax super wouldn't speculate.

There's only one bar in Mingo, and it's run by the lunch ladies at the middle school in Mingo. The HS is in Colfax. This is all true, I used to teach in that district.

No one has said that you shouldn't boo. I expect to get boos because I'm going to make calls that 50% of the crowd likes and the other 50% doesn't. You don't have to be an *** hole to be passionate. Is Coach Hoiberg not passionate because he doesn't scream and yell? How about Brad Stevens? Tony Dungy? As soon as it becomes personal you should be escorted from the gym. Whether the referee is paid or not it's called maturity and the vast majority of people have it. The insecure few who don't have it are cowards who would rather sit in the bleachers and yell from a distance and I will all but guarantee they wouldn't stand next to me on the floor and say some of the things which are said.

It's no different than ripping players on this board. Not a person here would have walked up to Chris Babb in December and said you're an absolutely awful shooter. Put them in the crowd or behind a screen name and they become a tough guy.

Everyone thinks they're an official until they actually put on the stripes and their perspective changes. Officials aren't out to get people. Most of us are just normal guys who enjoy the game and are making a little bit of money to workout. I actually have fun chatting with players while we're lining up free throws or getting ready to inbound the ball. Unfortunately some people forget that the game is still about having fun and appropriate sportsmanship at the high school level and they ruin it for everyone involved.

Like anything else, there are proper and improper ways to handle things. Want to throw your clipboard and stuff because you thought you didn't get the call? Great. You're probably getting a T and the next time you want the benefit of the doubt you aren't getting it.

Now if you talk to me while I'm standing on the floor in front of you and don't make a scene you're going to get much better cooperation from me. I'm not going to make some egregious call for you but if you want an explanation of what I saw, I'll be more than happy to give it to you and most of the time the coach will smile and say I gotcha. Yes the block was clean off the backboard but the defender went through the shooter and that's why the foul was called.

Like I said earlier, I used to be the "rip the officials every chance you get" type and it's embarrassing to me looking back. I didn't have a clue what the official's job actually entailed. I didn't know the rules nearly as much as I thought I did.
