Most Demoralizing Loss??
Don't mean to ruin every one's mood, but I thought I would see what people viewed as the most demoralizing loss in recent years in Cyclone Sports (basketball or football).

Missouri/Kansas potential North clinchers in football
Michigan State/Hampton in basketball
It's so hard to choose from so many.

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
I picked Kansas in 05. So much optimism after beating Colorado and getting up in that game early. At halftime I couldn't even imagine loosing that game.
But as mentioned above it is hard to pick from so many.

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
Michigan State game without question...
We were minutes away from going to the Final Four. I had never been so excited. I'll never be able to get over the fact that we were literally minutes away from the Final Four, which is something I may never see in my lifetime...

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
Yea, losing the shot at the Final Four was bad, but was it embarrassing? Not really.

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
As for embarrassing loss, it has to be Hampton.
i don't even wanna talk about it. Horrible, just horrible.

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
im going to say uconn.. just because it capped off such a bad fall.. we were ranked 9th at one time..
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -
Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
Since this is demoralizing I would have to go with Kansas,we were up, then even later we had multiple chances to win the games but managed to screw it up

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
That UCONN game was terrible. Not only were they new to Division 1-A, they completely dominated every phase of that game. I sat first row right behind the UCONN bench and those 70 players and coaches on their sideline were louder than the rest of the crowd. (I'm not even joking)

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
-Blowing that big lead to UCLA in the sweet 16 in 1997 was fairly demoralizing. Cameron Dollar over Cato still bothers me.
-UConn game was bad but the way the second half of that season went down it didn't surprise me all that much.
-Losing to Missouri in 2004 at JTS with all that was at stake was just unbelievable.

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
In the sense of the word demoralizing, that backalley beatdown we got from OU in 2002 when we were #9 and they were #2....that was PAINFUL.

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
I picked Hampton, with the 2004 football loss to Missouri a close second. McCarney's football teams had broken my heart enough times that I should have known better than to get my hopes up too high, even though I felt like someone had punched me in the gut after Missouri intercepted Meyer's goal-line pass in OT.
The Hampton loss was just completely inexplicable. There was no way a team that talented -- that had run roughshod over the Big 12 for the second straight year -- should have lost that game, especially with an 11-point lead with less than 10 minutes to go. I still feel sick to my stomach whenever I think about that game.
BvK, you've got to quit making so much sense because I "must spread some rep around" before giving more to you. (Original quote by wonkadog.) -
Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
You could have heard a pin drop after the Mizzou loss. Although I was a supporter of the coach throughout his tenure, I always felt differently about the program at that time.

Re: Most Demoralizing Loss??
Hampton.......with Michigan St a distant second, and the loss to Missouri a close third.
