Re: Wow, ISU daily op-ed slams JP

I don't think the student body has ever been thrilled with JP (he is eliciting change that is meant to drive people out of their comfort zones). Regardless what people who were big ISU fans prior to 1995, I think changing the visual identity (most notably, the logos) has greatly angered the current students and recent graduates that have only ever known the identity that's going away after this year (and I can relate because I kinda-sorta fit into this category, although I think it's pretty sweet what we're changing to). I think the students think that JP is paying way too much attention to the alumni and doesn't necessarily care what the students think. Throw in the firings of Morgan and McCarney and everything they know about ISU athletics has been completely turned upside down.

I wonder if Mark Scallon is a poster here. That'd be hilarious.

I graduated last spring and I don't I have seen an intellegent letter in the Daily since around 2004. Sometimes people just don't see the bigger picture.

It also seemed that the guy griped about Pollard doing what the writer wanting. He complained that Pollard turned over thing to the polls but then says that Pollard is alienating the fans? I thought asking us what kind of uniforms and such we would like to see was awesome. It puts the power in the fans' hands and lets us be part of the decisions.

Also, Pollard may have a final say in things, but not all ideas are his to gripe at. He has a team that brainstorms ideas, committees to decide, etc. It just like those of us that blame the Pres of US for all things but he does have a supporting crew who helps develop ideas.

This guy is stirring a pot of crap stew.

Harriet Michaels: Do you actually like haggis?
Charlie Mackenzie: No, I think it's repellent in every way. In fact, I think most Scottish cuisine is based on a dare.

This guy thinks that everyone's out to get the students when they don't even realize that they are part of the problem. Hopefully he gets that education he's paying for.

I'm a student. And last year Jamie came and had dinner at our house and spoke to us about his plans for the athletic department and I got to say everyone there absolutely got a man-crush on the guy - he is the real deal. A nice proportion of us like what he has been doing.

Can't say I blame the article. Did you watch the KSU game? The students had at least 2 full sections at mid court from what I could tell on TV. ISU students really have sucky seats. I don't blame them for not showing up on a cold night to sit in the rafters behind the baskets. Although I do agree the article is too harsh.

I didn't mean to lump everyone into that category, it's just the general impression that I have gotten - the general student body doesn't trust JP.

I agree with that, the student section should be moved to center court...ala Michigan State. But boosters would never allow that.

I would guess that first statement applies to 90% of institutions of higher learning in America

In regards to the second statement, Unless you were happy with sub .500 ball, it needed to be turned upside/down.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

After years of listening to his oh so smart sister and father who said Jamie Pollard was a cracked out dictator on a power trip, Marky finally stood up to the man and wrote to the Pulitzer Prize winning Iowa State Daily Letter to the Editor section. We salute you on your own power trip Marky Scall and hope Jamie Pollard pays you a visit so you stick that I up his *$# yourself!
The above is from a group on facebook his sister created. It looks like he is probably an Iowa fan and just trying to take a shot at JP.

This article is the reason I hate the Daily. It seems everything they allow to be published is only there to stir up trouble and controversy.

You can't polish a turd.

And I absolutely agree - things needed to change. I'm just stating it the way I see it.
