Re: Wow, ISU daily op-ed slams JP

Eh, what is written in the Daily is worth about what I wipe my rear with.

And sorry pal but the students don't control Pollard's job, not even CLOSE. The big time donors do because the students fail to realize that these are the people paying the bills. If he turns off the donors and season ticket holders he doesn't have money to pay for all these things. Your student ticket price and rowdiness at the games is not what drives Pollard's job, the bottom line on the budget does. Chances are the students that aren't showing up to games now aren't going to be the big donors or season ticket holders after graduation either.

Bottom line here students is that YOU control/are responsible for what happens with the student section issues not Pollard. If you show up to games, there wouldn't be this constant discussion about the lack of attendance. I know the diehards take offense to the criticism and I don't blame them because they are doing their part but it's so easy to blame everyone else when YOU have the power to do something about it. No matter what Pollard does, students respond better to their student peers. So be a leader and instead of complaining try to be part of the solution.

Speaking of the Daily,I had it out a couple times with one of their editorial writers once on a collumn he wrote that was so full of errors and lacking facts. I think probably more than once actually, the guy had no concept of backing his opinions with some research and facts and just spewed hate at times. I believe he was basically ripping on the Department of Residence which at the time I was employed by and was living in the halls myself. Even after a couple email exchanges where I presented actual factual references that he either mis-represented or failed to include as well as the director of the DOR writing a letter in response to the article to correct his misconceptions and fact-lacking claims he still replied with lengthy email spewing more hate and failing to address the facts that were presented. It's one thing to have an opinion but it's another to be so stupid that you completely ignore facts that make your points invalid and try to pass off your opinion as the facts when they aren't true. I think the guy's name was Blaine something, wonder what he's up to these days...

I disagree with nearly everyone in this post. I will echo this kids setiments almost 100%. Pollard needs to go look at Duke, KU and other great STUDENT sections and get a clue.

If I was a student I would not sign up for Cyclone Alley because they make you sign that stupid agreement. but thats just my reason.

I just took a dump...wish I would have read that before I did because I could have printed it out and used it as toilet paper. That's about the only good thing that opinion can be used for.

Re: Wow, ISU daily op-ed slams JP

There seems to be 2 major problems with the student seating fiasco:

1. The student section, inluding but not limited to, Cyclone Alley. Only making certain areas available to people who purchase a t-shirt which is mandatory to wear seems like you are alienating part of your core group. In addition placing the student section in the seats furthest from the action seems counter productive to the goal.

2. The method in which the season tickets are sold to students. The problem is also what makes them great. They are easy to purchase and reasonably priced for a student budget. when you go to orientation (at least in my day it was this way) you could order the tickets. It was/is easy to add them to your u-bill and for those who were fortunate to have their parents pay for their tuition the ticekts would be hidden among your tuition costs. Due to the ease of purchase many people who are not serious about season tickets get them and people like myself would at times miss out and not be able to get them. It's the nature of the beast, however there should be a way to overcome this and really make extra cash for the program by overselling certain games or even having a gameday student ticket purchase boxoffice window for those students who would like cheap tickets. It would all be profit since the tix were already sold, plus it would put more fans in the seats...hopefully.

I have half a mind to write a letter to Pollard saying not EVERY student feels that way.

Remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts!

So...you admit that you're "too cool for school"?

Because, that's a lot of what I see from the students that hate Cyclone Alley. I do not think it's perfect, far from it. CA needs enhanced - or something.

However, the silliness of "I'm gonna take my ball and go home because I don't like it" is - well - silly.

Isn't being a student part of being a student body? Doing things you may not necessarily like a ton, but for the greater good of the team?

Are many of the chants and movements during free-throws corny? Heck yeah. But it's done for the team...for the environment, etc.

IMO, part of the problem is exactly the "too cool for school" crowd...much like the person that wrote that "article".

And...um...'bout Duke, KU and the "other" student sections. Isn't KU a top 5 team - nearly year in and year out? Duke too?

It's rather tough to compare apples and oranges...but you're sure trying! :)

"After conducting almost no research, you decided it was time for Cy to go." Pretty sure alot of people wanted whirlybird to go in some part, was Ernst & Young called in,no.

My guess is that this guy was published only b/c he had the balls to give his name and major.

If I was JP I'd give the kid a ring...that would be a good convo.

I guess if wanting to wear whatever cyclone gear i want, chatting BS when theres a bad call, or any other chants I consider funny (not stupid or corny like the ones now) then I guess I am "too cool for school".

Top five team or not both Duke and KU have their student sections in good spots, unlike ISU.

Ugh.

The non-diehards are not going to show up - pretty much no matter where you put 'em. Sure, they'd show up when in their good location - but not when they're in the balcony. Win and it will be full. Note, that's not to say I think CA is perfect and shouldn't be changed. I've made it clear that enhancements are needed.

Maybe if CA was more like a Rage Against the Machine environment, anything goes - including as much vulgar language as possible - more people would show up.

It's completely crazy that we'd want a student section all wearing the same color - much like that KU, Duke and other student sections you wish we had. Man...that's just dumb...how could those awesome student sections subject themselves to looking like one, unified group? Or participating in their own stupid, corny chants that they all get into?

It's embarrassing...

1. If you want to help, give the University millions of dollars and buy all of the arena circle seating and then let the students sit there. But until you or someone does that, we NEED the money the big donors give...so they get to sit there for now.

2. Nearly every game I've been to this year the students have chanted BS or something to that extent.

Doesn't KU put the students behind the baskets and in the one corner? And for Duke it works to have students along the court because they are only like 5 rows deep. Then the non students still only sit about 10 rows up.

It would make for better enviroment for students to be alongside the court, but Hilton just isn't set up for this.

Umm... just a quick FYI here is Kansas' seating arrangement Facilities - The University of Kansas Jayhawks - Official Athletic Site.

The student section is red... strange how it has a very similar look to how another arena sets up their student section.
