I had a math question:
65 teams for NCAA, out of 300+
64 bowl teams, out of 119.
Wouldn't that make the tourny more prestigious, since it's much less than half the teams making the dance?
Just asking That's what I was thinking.

Re: NCAA tourny or bowl game
Bowl game:
(1) It brings in money.
(2) It's more of a recruiting incentive for football players than the NCAA is for basketball players.
(3) It gives us fans a chance to travel.
(4) ISU gets national exposure on bowl day compared to being one of 8 basketball teams playing at the same time.

NCAA tourney. It's a much bigger deal to me than the bowls are, unless we're talking the upper tier ones.

How do you figure that? I think they would at least be equal from a recruiting perspective.

Re: NCAA tourny or bowl game
I'm going with the NCAA. You get into that and you have a "chance" to win it all. If we go to a bowl next year it will probably besomethingcrapy.com in cold country that doesn't really mean much of anything. Just my thoughts though.

Definately a bowl game. Don't forget about all the extra practices that bowl teams get. Those could be huge in preparing for 2009.

A bowl game is a reward for a successful season which includes a week or more in a vacation destination during the between-semester break. OK, Shreveport not so much but Phoenix was a great trip. A major bowl can be the experience of a lifetime for a college football player.
The NCAA tournament is a short notice one-and-done trip that is taken during classes and involves (usually) non-vacation destinations and no recreation other than go there, play a game, and if you lose, go home.

Re: NCAA tourny or bowl game
It depends. If I had to pick I would say NCAA tournamnet. But if the bowl game would be the Alamo or better then most definitely the bowl game.

I guess I view the NCAA tournament and bowl games as achieving success during a season and getting to showcase yourself on the biggest stage - and I think anybody who is a competitor has that for a goal and it is a selling point.
The NCAA tournament can also be the experience of a lifetime, and I'm sure if you asked anybody on our former teams about their experiences there they would say that. Same with football players and Boise. I guess I just think it would be the same thing from a recruiting standpoint.
