I'm glad you all enjoyed the article. Hopefully I can answer any questions you guys have. I will write a lot on the NBA, but I also will cover guys that kinda leave the radar screen overseas too.
My thoughts are that most scouts only focus on guys 16 to 19 years old. Especially after a player turns 22 and heads overseas. Any progress they make on their game draws zero attention.
What I can say is Stevie is interested in the D League and he loves Iowa. Most players overseas take a pay cut to play in the D League. But Euro salaries are really on the decline. Not many guys make Marcus Fizer money overseas. Also sadly, Marcus had to shut his game down with at least a season ending injury.
Hopefully ISU fans will support Stevie. What I encourage you all to do is write the Iowa Energy. All their emails and numbers are on their D league website. Bottomline is their attendence (like most D league teams) isn't all that great. If Iowa fans want Stevie, then I would imagine they (Energy) would go the extra distance to collaborate with his agent to get the deal done.
The Energy picked up Jeff Horner before the NBDL draft because of his connection to Iowa. The Energy need to offer Stevie the same deal. I mentioned a few other players in my article who all have the same agent.
It is up to all you bloggers and fans to let them know what you want to see happen.

Johnson is likely getting 7 to 9k per month as an import in the LEB. its a lot. If he gets paid at the top level in the NBDL he'd still be giving up some money to play in the D League.

Overseas you are looking between $150k - 1mil + depending on your level of talent. It also seems the international players like Martin and Jiri make more because they don't take up one of the two spots for a US player.
The D-League on the other hand pays minimal at best. Probably between 20k - 40k if you don't have the NBA contract. This is what I have gathered from the individuals I know who played in the leagues.
I agree if they want to be the Minor leagues of the NBA and have the best of the rest they will have to up their pay.

Now where can I get a Stevie Johnson Spanish league jersey? I would love to get a Fizer Israel jersey too. Those would be awesome.

Isn't Stevie too old for the NBDL? I thought that they have restrictions on how long out of college you can be to get in the league.

I believe you can only play two years in the NBDL if you are under NBA contract. Other then that I don't think there is an age limit.

Last night the ISU vs. Oklahoma game in the B12 championship from 2000 was on Mediacom. It was nice to watch Stevie play again!

I've seen the ISU/OU game several times on that channel. it's tought to watch because it is very clear how far and how fast we've fallen. On the other hand, it's impossible not to watch. What a team that was.

I agree if they want to be the Minor leagues of the NBA and have the best of the rest they will have to up their pay. Overseas contracts do not start at 150k. Many D1 players end up starting out their first year overseas at 2500 a month to prove they can play the FIBA style. This was true for Johnson as well (Iceland). The D League has three different contract levels starting from 17k to 36k.
Generally with limited import roster spots, their contracts tend to be the highest. However, that can vary from organization to organization.

It's nice to remember guys that loved ISU. This guy loved ISU so much he freakin played football after he used up his basketball eligibility. Can you guys imagine Rahshon Clark suiting up at wide receiver for the Cyclones this fall?
