I think if we bowl in the lower level on the south, we will fill it pretty consistently, but I would rather see the extra money go into stadium beautification, like brick fences, new seats, completing the east concourse, etc, etc. I would take all of that over a bball practice facility. This is all, of course, assuming this rumored deal thing happens... I seriously hope this isn't an April fool's joke I guess we'll have to turn some Hawk fans into Cyclones then....

I have to agree with you on that one.

Actually, I was one that thought the B-Ball facility was more important, but with the recent approval of State Gym remodel and expansions, and Beyer and Forker renovations, I don't think it's as pressing of a need right now. I think rebuilding a football program is much more difficult than Basketball, and we can't afford to get behind there. Big 12 Facility wise, we're not as far behind in basketball as football, and we've already proven we can compete in the big 12 with the facilities we have. Yes, we have to improve them, but I think state gym improvements make a good short term solution that allows football to continue to play catchup.

I disagree here - our football practice facility is still very nice in comparison to a lot of schools. Our basketball facilities might only be better than Nebraska's and Baylors.

There's no question that if left up to JP, Football will come first. It is MUCH more important for an AD to have a solid FB program than BBall.
Having said that, we are striving for both.

I could be wrong, since I've never been recruited.
What I do know though is, Hilton more than holds its own with any place in the big 12 to play basketball. Jack trice competes with only Mzzou and KU. I'm not saying that B-ball doesn't need something, I'm just saying the need isn't as pressing if State Gym gets the overhaul and expansion they're planning.

personally, I am for a BB practice facility and BB locker room redesign/upgrade before a south end zone.
But I could see both being done in 5-6 years.

Here's the thing.
If they're going to bowl in the end zone, then they should do the whole thing. Upper and lower decks. It just makes financial sense in terms of building cost. The longer you wait to build the upper deck, the more it will cost to do it. If you're going to do it, do it right the first time.
A complete south end is doing it right, IMO. All apologies to the BBall teams.
A large donor would generally call the shots on something like that I would think. Or at least have some say. If they're donating for football, then the money should go to JTS, regardless of previous plans.

i think practice facility is more important then an upper deck... recruiting would be easier with a nice place to practice...
| Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." |

I have no doubt that a speed up of the south endzone can take place, but I highly doubt that an upper deck would be included in such a remodel. We can't even fill the corners on a typical Saturday at Jack Trice. How can Pollard justify a complete upper/lower bowling in of the south endzone? Especially if he leaves the basketball team in the dust.
Having said that, I hope it happens.

Lets just do them both at the same time and please everybody!
Assuming the rumor is true, we just need one more huge donor for basketball. Any volunteers?!?!

The only way I can really see justifying a second deck, currently (with respect to current average attendance), is by stopping the sale of hillsides altogether. Most Saturdays we can't fill all four hillsides, and it would really look bad to have a half-full double deck endzone and packed hillsides. Now having a packed double deck endzone and empty hillsides? Not too shabby IMO.
