They aren't going to cut Wrestling because, it's Iowa. VdV said that a number of the big boosters are 'involved' with the golf program so that wasn't a possibility. That leaves Swimming and Baseball. Swimming, unfortunately is really a dying sport in NCAA as I think there are less than 30 teams now...

And, it's really a shame that ISU dropped their program. All schools have attendance problems in baseball, unless you live in the south.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A Big Four Tournament at Principal Park would be amazing.

we should drop swimming if there is only 30 or so teams left, cause baseball would be a bigger money maker anyway

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.
"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

Part of the long-term facilities master plan includes building a new track, softball stadium, & "possibly" a new baseball stadium accross from JTS where the intramural softball diamonds are located adding to the entrance to Iowa State University.
It has been a while since I heard/read this though.

Were there budget issues that caused the demise of baseball and men's swimming? Yes. Could these decisions have been handled better? Absolutely. Would the proposed funding by a few donors have solved all the financial issues for the baseball team? Not necessarily considering the issues with facilities and the increased costs. I could go on about this issue for hours about how this was mismanaged, but have learned that it just isn't healthy for me to do so.
Personally, I've come to terms with this decision even though I'm not happy about it. Cybsball20 and I both were impacted more than 99% of the people out there, but the good thing is that we are both still die-hard Cyclones that want the best for our school.

I remember watching the news with my dad when they said ISU cut a sport and went to commercial before saying what it was. We both figured golf would go, I really don't know much about what ISU baseball, but I assumed it was probably better then what the golf team can usually do.

EDIT: Probably.

EDIT: found the article ... towards the bottom. Pollard brings vision, plan to Iowa State - Sports That would be pretty sweet. And I think it would look better than our competitors in the Big 12. Baylor has a nice baseball stadium and it sits on the same road as the basketball arena and other complexes. UT has the baseball stadium right across the road (albeit I-35) from DKR. Both places are full of traffic.
Seeing a brand new Iowa State stadium coming north up University Blvd right across from JT would look pretty boss, IMO.

I would love to see that area become a true athletic complex. Having all the stadiums together would be pretty sweet. I would rather be patient and do things right, including building a 3500-5000 seat stadium then rush baseball back and play at Cap Timm. Hopefully I win the lottery soon...
