It just means that in 15-20 years, when those that attended ISU from 1995-2008 (who really love the current logo) are the big money donors for the athletic program, we're going to have yet ANOTHER identity change to appease their tastes.

I went to ISU smack dab in the middle of the timeframe set above, and I really like the logo that's being phased out, but I really don't mind the new identity so much either and at this point I think it's more important for us as a university to pick an identity and settle on it so the nation can finally identify ISU with one look instead of changing the identity every 10-15 years to appease the new generation of big money donors and the rest of the nation never being able to identify us.

Nothing against you or anything, but most of the students including myself, love the new logo.
I would say across the board its probably close to half and half, but with a lot of students coming in, they won't know the difference and will go along with the new logo anyways. Especially when they start seeing it all over campus and at athletic events.

I actually like the new font ("Cyclone") much better than I do the logo as a whole (I must be a Tech Comm major...). I still find the new logo pretty bland and unoriginal, but whatever, I also don't hate it so much that I'll raise a big fuss about it. Anything will look good once we start winning.

My opinion on the new logo...

Simpler is always better, look at some of the most recognizable programs today and the logos that they use...

Don't get me wrong, I still love the whirly bird. But for an identifiable logo, follow the K.I.S.S. principle. Oh, and don't change it every 5-10 years.

Ugh. I hate this argument, particularly now because I can refute it.

I was in Houston about 4 weeks ago for Spring Break. Wore Iowa State stuff (Bird in Blender and SAA gear) all week. Nobody ever said a thing to me.

Last day in town, wore my new cardinal I-State shirt. Had about 5-10 people go "OH! Iowa State!" to me and strike up conversations.

You can't tell me that I-State is any more ambiguous than "ISU", "U of M", "U of I" or "ASU"

Maybe it's just me, but I find the new logo more confusing than the old logo. I love the colors and the font, but I don't buy the justification that this logo is more identifiable than the old one.

I can't speak on identifiable, but at least you can make out what the logo is from a distance greater than 50 feet. With swirly Cy, you have to know the logo to even have an idea what it is.

As superfan pointed out above, I-State can only be so many things and people can figure it out much like K-State, OK-State, etc.

Someone at work told me the Strawberry Patch in Ankeny has the old logo stuff way cheap now. Said they bought some blanket that were originally $25 for just $10. I'm trying not to buy old logo stuff now so I can afford to buy the new stuff but for the right price I might buy some nice older logo stuff possibly.

FYI... I stopped at UBS today and saved on their buy three Nike items and save 60%. Spent $40 on $100 worth of stuff ($60 hoodie sweat shirt, $22 fitted hat, $18 screen print Tshirt). I thought it was a really good deal.

FYI - Woodland Hills Golf Course north of Des Moines, IA has Titleist Collegiate caps with the new punching Cy logo.

If you want a plain color cap, go to Signify's plant south Ames near the airport and take a look, or on line. My polos are fantastic. I have red, white and gold with the new logo, plus hooded sweatshirt and a v neck all weather pull over. The comments are great!
