Credits: 1,323,003 | No way could they enforce that. Exactly. They'll probably make an attempt to enforce it initially, but eventually they'll just let it go unless someone complains. I used to smoke (quit about a year ago) and I remember visiting Case Western Reserve University, another school that had banned smoking on campus. The ban had been in place for about a year when I was there, and it was a ban in name only. People still smoked all over. Shoot, there were still ashtrays outside of most of the buildings. Nobody did anything about it.

The hospital I worked for had a ban on hospital grounds, but sure is shoot, when it rained or snowed, there were staff huddled in the back stairway smoking away. This stairway was more of a tunnel that patient families would occasionally use. It was gross. If a rule is not enforced people will bend and break it.

I think this is a good policy, because one I don't want to have to smell it. It sucks having to bartend right now and having to breathe that all in. I will say that it will be hard to enforce, but its a good start.

But it's hard to tell without actually seeing the law. That 25 foot rule would only extend to the area immediately surrounding the stadium. Interesting question. Let's ban all carcoal grills then. The fumes from those things are bad for you too.

I am bothered by babies and children. I am annoyed by them and offended by their smell. I also don't care for overweight people, as they often smell too, especially after a long day of tailgating. I am sure all of you whose day is immediately ruined when you smell a puff of smoke will agree with me that no more children or overweight people should be allowed on any of these grounds as well.
Honestly, all I take from these threads is that I am glad I don't get my rocks off by complaining like some people apparently do. Some people simply live their lives looking for something to complian about, be offended by, or for something they can restrict others from doing.
I am sorry if I am not in tears at the thought of some of you occasionally smelling a cigarette at a tailgate! Nut up! Are you guys really such prissies that your day is ruined and the game ruined for you each time you smell someone's cigarette, OUTDOORS no less??
The joy some take by working to control what other people are doing is freakin disgusting to me. If some guy is smoking at a tailgate, who freakin cares! You really let this affect your day or bother you in some way? Why?
And please don't shoot back that some guy smoking by you oustide will give you lung cancer, if you think that is true there is no hope for you.

I agree 100%. I do understand the ban on indoors, and even the ban within 15 feet of a doorway, but what is the harm is some dude wants to go far away from everyone (behind a building or something) and light up? I don't smoke (use to dabble in it in college) but I feel really bad for smokers at ISU now. I honestly think this new law is reducing smokers to scum of the earth, second class citizens.
I get no smoking inside because it can be harmful to others, but if someone wants to light up outside away from anyone else, isn't that his right? Apparently not. For me, I am more offended by someone passing gas when I am walking behind them on campus than a smoker. Someone should give the farting fat dude a ticket! | | |

This is ridiculous, you have a better chance of dying from getting hit by a CyRide than dying of secondhand smoke you get outside on campus. The ban will not be enforced, maybe a few unlucky souls will get screwed over at first to make an example...but that will be it.
Did you know it will also be illegal to smoke in your car while driving through campus??? I'd say the fumes comin out are a little more dangerous than a frickin cigarette.
When I smoke on campus I try to be considerate and do it out of the way, but if a little secondhand smoke bothers some people that much then I feel sorry for you walking across campus. For example, real discomforts, like walking across campus in winter when its "Little Siberia"..I could go on.

I wish smoking was banned in housing when I was there, not because I mind a little smoke, but I really minded the nastiness that pervaded the dorm. Of course all of that "smoke" wasn't from cigarettes.

If someone is smoking outside and it bothers you, move 2 feet away... problem solved.
If you feel that this person should be fined and new laws written to ensure that you never again need to move 2 feet to avoid that terrible, day-ruining exposure to the smell of smoke, then you are most likely the one with the problem, not the smoker.

This is just another case of the government intruding into areas they should not. I have no problem with the government banning smoking in government bldgs and areas but banning in businesses that are privately owned is going way too far. It is a decision that should be made be each business and the market will decide if the business decision was good or not.

Here's the issue. Smelly loud babies and overweight people don't affect the health of the people around them. Neither do drunk people unless they get behind the wheel or start assaulting people.
Smoking affects not only the person doing it, but everyone around them. As an asthmatic, it is not my responsibility to leave the location if you decide to start smoking. It will be my responsibility to ask you to stop, now that the law is in place.
Your right to smoke ends where my lungs begin. That argument applies to a lot of things. Assault for instance. Your right to hit me ends where my face begins. Its the way the law works.
There is NO right to smoke in the Constitution.
