Ask your state Rep to introduce such a bill and see what happens. I'll warn you that it can be tough, I've been helping the smoke free Iowa cause for three years now and we finally got this pushed through (mind you there has been consistant support from a vast majority of Iowans to pass this.) I'm guessing that a ban of charcol grills and cars in tailgate lots probably won't poll as well, but we won't know until there is one.

So this really isn't about public health, it's about passing issues that poll well??

Actually, I'm not suprised at all...

I wouldn't say that the vast majority of Iowans agree with this, I would say that the majority just doesn't care (smoker or nonsmoker), have more important things to worry about, and that their pursuit of happiness wasn't infringed upon by some guy smoking in his car....buts thats just IMO. The majority of the blue collar class could care less or would be against the ban, but they are not as vocal.

Or people are against the ban because they don't like to smell smoke or have their clothes smell like smoke which is a BS reason to support the legislature taking away freedoms. But oh well.

Dude, you can still go to Red Lobster. Just order the steak instead of seafood.

The problem with this is, a baby can't stop being a baby. It's one of the phases the little tiny people have to go through to be come big people like you and me.

An adult should have to will power to be able to stop smoking for a bit though.

I agree 100%. I do understand the ban on indoors, and even the ban within 15 feet of a doorway, but what is the harm is some dude wants to go far away from everyone (behind a building or something) and light up? I don't smoke (use to dabble in it in college) but I feel really bad for smokers at ISU now. I honestly think this new law is reducing smokers to scum of the earth, second class citizens.

I get no smoking inside because it can be harmful to others, but if someone wants to light up outside away from anyone else, isn't that his right? Apparently not. For me, I am more offended by someone passing gas when I am walking behind them on campus than a smoker. Someone should give the farting fat dude a ticket!

Actually, you could probably make the case that it makes them into a revenue stream, and one that's popular to pick on.

Reap the Wirbelsturm!!!

Again -

"Some individuals can be sensitive to the airborne fumes produced by cooking fish. These people can also have an allergic reaction triggered by simply walking through a fish market. Individuals who are this sensitive should be very careful about dining in restaurants or unfamiliar places. Sensitive individuals can also receive an allergic reaction from skin contact with fish and should avoid handling seafood."

I have no problem with this. Cell phones, texting, etc. can be annoying as heck. I did just fine without a cell phone for over 20 years and could easily do it again....no problemo.

How about microwaves? X-Ray machines? Electronics that use batteries?

Where does it end...?

Seafood Allergies

Actually, we have this in my workplace. Someone is very allergic to fish and we are all advised to not cook or eat it around her or in her vicinity.

Actually, I could argue the same point against smokers...

"Is it all really just about you and your ability to light up? Is it all about you?"

Change is the only constant in the universe, which is why I empty my pockets every day.

Being advised by your employer not to do something in the workplace run by said employer is a heck of a lot different than being mandated by the government not to do something in public places.

Nice to know that our elected officials are taking their cues from public polling instead of what they personally think is right/wrong or good/bad. Why dont we just have drive up polls where we can instantly vote on what we want instead of paying brain dead life long politicians to read polls and vote accordingly.
