I grew up there, and I can vouch for the fact that it is a Hawk hotbed for some reason. I can only really recall a few Clone fans in my graduating class of 200 and they really aren't the donating kind.
How does a town that is 10 minutes from Ames become a hawk hotbed?
There is the problem I am trying to figure out.
If you went to school in Ames, would you move to Boone?
I think the thing about Boone is that there are a lot of Farmers I know in town that are donors and love the Clones, but Farmers can't go to games because of Harvest. A lot of the businessmen and stuff went to Iowa, came back home, propogated and raised a bunch of Hawkeye kids.
The funny thing is story county only has 13%, and that includes the town that houses the university.

My dad is a farmer and I get ticked when they use the accuse of harvest over their team:) Maybe in some situations like this year where its raining all the time and they can't get into the field so they have to work on a saturday afternoon, but if I was a farmer 10 minutes away from my favorite School I would be spending the afternoon in Ames.
$250,000 Combines have GPS and Lights now. Work Saturday night and its only a few saturdays during October they would really have any issues.
Most the farmers I know don't have 250k combines and frankly the ones I know are incredibly busy throughout harvest. Maybe they want their Saturday nights off since they've been working into the night the rest of the week.
