No offense to our gymnastic program, but from my understanding, college gymnastics are a step down from Olympic competition.

Hope not because we'd get slapped with a pretty serious violation from the NCAA. It would probably make the Lucca punishment look soft.
She's got sponsorships from car companies, clothing lines (Adidas I believe), etc. She can't compete in the NCAA. Look at the Colorado football player who was on the US ski team at the Salt Lake Olympics--NCAA forbid him from participating because of his sponsorships.

I think I remember reading somewhere (the Rag?) that she had to get a special thing from the NCAA to make sure she could compete in gymnastics in college, and I believe the school mentioned was Nebraska, but I could be wrong.

I can't find the article that I was going to cite because the Register sucks with its archiving, however...
She took endorsements in the sport that she would compete in in college. And as previously stated, it would be step down. There was an article when she first turned pro that she was taking the endorsements to save and go to an Ivy League school and study medicine.

There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams

Alright guys, here's the news. I hope this isn't too big of a surprise for you, but I think you can handle it.
My Diet Pepsi is finally nicely chilled in the fridge.

My Diet Pepsi is finally nicely chilled in the fridge. It took that long? You may want to get a new fridge. | | |
